Reformation Amusement Park Project

Global Studies II

Directions:

Working in groups of no more than 4 people, you will design an amusement park, the theme of which is the Reformation. Your amusement park theme can be the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic Reformation, or both. When designing your amusement park, you need to make sure everything (rides, restaurants, concession stands, etc.) goes along with the theme.

Each group will turn in a park map and a brochure for their amusement park.

Park Map

Your park map will be designed on a piece of poster board. The members of your group should illustrate and label the following on the map:

  • Park Entrance w/Park Name
  • 3 large rides
  • 4 small rides
  • 2 restaurants
  • 3 concession/souvenir stands
  • 2 park mascots

Remember to connect your attractions with walkways. Each element on the map should be neatly illustrated, clearly labeled with the name of the attraction, and should represent some aspect of the Protestant or Catholic Reformation. You can decorate your park with things like trees, shrubbery, benches, fountains, etc.

Brochure

Each denomination will design a pamphlet featuring all of your quadrant’s rides, restaurants, concession stands, and mascots. List each attraction in your amusement park and explain in a paragraph for each the historical detail and significance. You need to specifically discuss how each attraction relates to the Reformation. You will need to write more than one sentence to adequately describe each ride, restaurant, and mascot, as well as the entrance. Make sure you include the name of your park on the brochure.

Your brochure may be (in fact, it most likely will be) more than one page long. Do not try to cram everything onto one page.

Both your map and brochure should be neat and colorful. Remember, projects in which you have gone above and beyond in terms of neatness, creativity, and thoroughness may be rewarded with bonus points.

Every group member must participate and contribute to the project in order to receive credit. If you do not adequately contribute to the project, you will not receive credit. If you miss more than one day of class work on the project, you will not receive credit for your group’s work. You will have to do your own project.
