COURSE EXPECTATIONS:

The purpose of English III is to expose students to a broad spectrum of American literature, thought, art, politics, religion, philosophy, etc., in order to gain a greater understanding of the English language and American cultural history.

In addition to an intense examination of the rhetoric of American Literature, students will be expected to summarize, analyze, and evaluate the literature covered in written journals, essays, reports, projects, and oral presentations.

CLASS POLICIES:

  • Respect yourself and everyone around you
  • Bring all supplies to class daily
  • Please make sure any electronic devices you have are OFF when you enter the classroom. If these are visible or can be heard in your bag, they will be taken up and turned into the office.
  • All school policies will be followed as they are stated in the student handbook
  • Take care of getting drinks, using the restroom, etc. before class. You will be given THREE (3) hall/bathroom passes per semester. Those not used may be exchanged at the end of the semester for a reward opportunity!! Woohoo! You will keep your own passes!
  • Bring a positive attitude and expect a great day!

TUTORIALS:

Tutorials will be offered Monday and Tuesday after school, 4:30-5:00 PM. Any additional time must be scheduled with the teacher.

SUPPLIES:

You need to have the following supplies everyday:

  • Binder or folder in order to keep handouts and loose-leaf paper
  • Loose-leaf notebook paper (several packets) – we will use a large amount of notebook paper.
  • pencils, pens: blue or black ink only
  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Colored pencils, glue stick, scissors, highlighters, flash drive

GRADING POLICY

  • Major Grades: 60% - Tests, essays, major projects, presentations.
  • Minor Grades: 40% - Daily Warm Ups, Homework, Classwork, & Quizzes.

Late Work- Late work is defined as any assignment not turned in on the assigned and teacher communicated due date.

A late assignment may be turned in under the following guidelines:

  • 1 school day late – maximum score is 85
  • 2 school days late – maximum score is 70
  • 3 school days late – maximum score of 60
  • No late work accepted after 3 school business days. A zero is recorded in the grade book.

Make-Up Work - You will have time equal to the days you were absent from class plus one day to complete all missed assignments. Make up tests will be administered before or after school to prevent you from missing additional class

Remember that you are responsible for all information covered during class when you are absent. This includes notes, exam dates, assignments, handouts, special topics of discussion, group and individual work, projects, and special announcements.

Parents, you are able to keep track of how your student is doing in this class by logging on to the school’s website at Under the “Parents” tab, click on “Family and student access” and follow the steps to register.

Class Webpage

You are expected to utilize the class webpage. I will make updates to it and you will be expected to obtain information from the webpage as needed. I will distribute handouts in class and post them on the webpage as well. Should you lose the original handout, please visit the class webpage to print another copy. There is also a link to the online textbook should you need to complete assignments from the book while away from the classroom.

Remind 101
