A seven week volunteer training programme at Manchester Art Gallery

to develop confidence and wellbeing.

Who is it for?

We are seeking people who want to improve their health and wellbeing.

We will consider applications from anyone in the Greater Manchester area who feels

they may benefit from the programme.

What is it?

One day a week delivered at ManchesterArtGallery during September and October

2016.

The programme will run on Fridays(10am – 3.30pm) starting on Friday 16th September.

An 8 week training programme to increase personal confidence, develop

communication skills and improve wellbeing.

During the programme participants will learn about ManchesterArtGallery, our

artworksand volunteering at our venue and other museums and galleries.

Led bygallery staff the programme will use our wellbeing toolsand creativity to

build resilience and confidence.

Participants will start to volunteer at ManchesterArtGalleryat week 5 of the course.

On completion of the eight week course, participants have the opportunity to apply for

a further six week placement at one of our partner heritage venues:

Manchester Jewish Museum, Museum of Science & Industry, National Trust Dunham Massey, Ordsall Hall, People’s HistoryMuseum, ManchesterArtGallery, The Whitworth, Imperial War Museum North.

What additional training is on offer?

In addition to the seven week course there is a programme of training and support to further develop skills and knowledge:

  • Welcome International (accredited customer service training)
  • Visit and learn about other heritage venues
  • Volunteer-to-volunteer mentoring

What are the benefits and where might this programme lead to in the future?

Participants will gain new skills, practical experience working as part of a team, access to training, increased confidence and increased wellbeing. Staff will also work with participants to help them to progress to:

  • Further learning
  • New volunteering opportunities – following completion of the programme, volunteers may continue to volunteer at their chosen venue (depending on vacancies), or will be offered further opportunities at organisations across the city.
  • Employment – Learning new skills and gaining real work experience will enhance CV’s. Participants of previous programmes have secured jobs in both the cultural and non-cultural sector.
