Pathways Academy of Technology & Design empowers its diverse community of students to become fully active participants in our global, technology-driven society. Through Project-Based Learning students acquire technological and critical thinking skills, and develop a sense of personal and social responsibility that enables them to successfully compete in the growing, fast-paced, and rapidly changing world economy.

Pathways’ emphasis is on technology skills and their application into four areas areas:Gaming and App Development (Computer Animation, Digital Video and Media, Graphic Design, Web Design, and Video Game Design), Computer Science(Programming, Networking, Database Development, Robotics), Business Information Systems(E-Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Advanced Manufacturing), and Performance Media (Digital Video & Media, Sound Production, Music Technology, Film & TV Production.
School and Community
- Pathways Academy is a Hartford districtmagnet high school that first began as a program at Hartford Public High School 12 years ago.
- It has existed as a separate high school and state-approved magnet schoolsince the 2003-2004 school year.
- The school is located in East Hartford, CT, but remains a Hartford DistrictMagnet School.
- Pathways was named the Top Secondary Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America in 2014 and has been recognized since 2012 as a NAF Distinguished Academy and also as a Magnet School of America School of Excellence and Distinction.

Course Levels
All courses at Pathways Academy are taught at the Academic or Honors level. We offer AP classes in Biology, Calculus, Literature & Composition, and Computer Science. Students have also had the opportunity to receive college credit through Goodwin College. Special Education students may receive level modifications and accommodations.
Students are ranked. Pathways has block scheduling and operates on a full-year calendar.

Work-Based Learning
The Pathways Academy Industry Advisory Board serves as advisors to Pathways Academy of Technology and Design. The board includes business partner co-chairs, along with a NAF affiliate, parents, teachers, and higher education and business partners with backgrounds in curriculum development, teaching, and fiscal expertise.
The primary role of the Board is to provide industry-based guidance in the accomplishment of Pathways’ vision. The Board is a resource for mentors, internships, experiential learning, curriculum advice, as well as current industry needs.
All students at Pathways participate in work-place readiness training and have an opportunity to secure an internship through resume preparation and interviewing. Past internships have included: website design & maintenance, I.T. troubleshooting support, digital media & graphic design, and administrative projects. During the summer of 2016, nearly 80 Pathways students had paid internships across 27 locations, including Aetna, Travelers, the Hartford, AdChem, CT Science Center, Hartford Healthcare, Verizon Quest, CPEP, Neighborhood Studios, Energy Efficiencies, and more.
