The Board meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014.

Roll Call

Announcements

Staff announced Gyu-Kyku, a popular Japanese BBQ restaurant would be moving into Downtown in the current Gio’s Boxing location at 116 S. San Fernando. It was also announced the Five Guys Burgers has planned to move into the Burbank Town Center into the former My Big Fat Greek Restaurant.

Public Comment

There were no members of the public present at the meeting that wished to speak during this time.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes for the meeting of June 5, 2014 were approved as written. Joy Forbes made a motion for approval, seconded by Ted Slaught; motion carried 6-0.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer’s report for July 31, 2014 was presented by Mike Wilford. Joy Forbes made a motion for approval, seconded by JC Holt; motion carried 6-0.

Agenda Items

I. Burbank International Film Festival

Jeff Rector from the Burbank International Film Festival gave an update on the 2014 Festival. The event, sponsored in part by the PBID, will take place in Downtown from September 3rd through the 7th. The event’s opening night screening will take place at the Burbank AMC 16 for the first time in the events history. This year’s event will also feature Lou Ferrigno for as the 21014 awardee for Diversity in Film, and a special screening of The Little Mermaid for its 25th Anniversary.

II. Downtown Burbank Car Classic Update

Staff updated the Board on the 3rd Annual Car Classic which took place July 26, 2014. This year’s event featured Jay Leno as Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and new business West Coast Customs as honoree of a special welcome to Burbank certificate presented by Mayor Gordon. The event brought over 12,000 visitors to the City, and displayed almost 200 antique and specialty vehicles. Staff announced that the PBID was able to secure over $25,000 in income and sponsorship to offset the cost of the event.

III. Holiday Décor Discussion

Staff presented two holiday décor proposals for review, one from the Districts current company, Dekra Lite, and one from Mobile Illuminations. Both proposals for enhanced holiday décor for the District and the Ice Rink were compared side-by-side. After review and discussion by the Board, Ted Slaught made a motion to work with Mobile Illuminations and implement a 3-year contract, with a not to exceed amount of $85,000, seconded by Joy Forbes; motion carried 6-0.

IV. January – June Budget Update

Staff presented a mid-year budget update (January - June) for review. The Partnership is currently on pace with receipt of Assessment and other sponsorship income. Staff did note that most expenditure for the Board comes in the last two quarters for the District. The report was noted and filed.

V. On-going Operational Issues Action Item

Marissa Minor asked the Board to consider transferring $50,000 from the City’s holding account to the P-BID checking account, Mike Wilford made a motion for approval, seconded by Ted Slaught; motion carried 6-0.

VI. New Items

Ted Slaught announced that the Story Tavern staff was supporting the upcoming OktoBURfest, and was able to assist in securing secure over twenty breweries for this year’s event. Staff will be meeting with Story Tavern in August to continue planning for this year’s event.
