  • Loretta submitted a current MCG Budget update showing expenditures and balances to date:
  • Total Budget $4726.82
  • Expenses-$104.18
  • Balance-$8898.86.

Communications

  • No Updates

Hospitality

  • Holiday potluck and Greens Workshop: Date set for Dec. 6. Location TBD.
  • Carol L. to send out a save the date Evite

Dessert night: Fri. Oct. 24. at 7:30. Hosted by Lee Caras.

  • Barbara B. to send out Evite and put a notice in the Oct. newsletter

Maintenance

  • Island planter
  • Penny put on a new combination lock
  • Penny will buy bulbs to plant in island. Group OK’d purchase of what she feels is an appropriate amount.
  • Penny contacted the teacher from Fowler School looking for help with a planter. There was no response.
  • Denise will be out of commission for a while and not able to do maintainance at Maplebrook Park.

Buckets and planters

  • $53 was spent for mums and asters for the new Nason/Main St. planter.
  • In case of shortfall in bucket budget note that plants were not figured into original budget.
  • We will need a new committee head for the bucket committee for next year. Barbara W. to place article in newsletter describing position.
  • Also need new volunteers for alley buckets next year.
  • Vandalism continues to alley buckets. Police have been contacted and have promised to monitor area.

Community Activities

  • ARRT - Construction $ have been cut from state transportation budget for a number of rail trails. This creates adouble problem because grant money for design portion of trail has clauses that prevent the design money from being spent if there isn't money allocated for construction. There will be a letter-writing campaign to state transportation board with testimontials of the transportation benefits of the trail
  • Farmers' Market - Last market of the season is Saturday, October 4.
  • Litter League - Fall town cleanup scheduled for Saturday, November 8. The group is also working with the town to get the graffiti removed
  • New energy group - next meeting Thursday, October 9 @ Earthwatch 7pm; proposed name is MaynardCAN (Climate Action Network) & broad mission statement that will allow MCG to promote activities such as composting, eating local, and growing your own food
  • Proposed dog park - Lisa held kick off meeting 9/30

Programs

  • Visit to Pat's (Silver Hill Farm) on 9/27- Good turnout despite the rain. We will be giving Pat a t-shirt and gloves as a thank-you gift
  • Book making workshop
  • group selected the accordian style book as the one they would like to try.
  • Dottie to contact Gail Erwin for her fee, number of people she can accommodate, any suggestions on location, material costs and possible dates.
  • Intent was that this would be a winter workshop - possibly Jan or Feb.

Tea Workshop

  • group decided they would likea program that includes sampling 6 teas, info on brewing tea, and history of tea and/or tea plant.
  • Carol will provide information to Carolyn Stock so that she can mind out our options and send website address

Greens Workshop

  • Selected Saturday, December 6 as a date. We will send out Evite with required rsvp's so that we know how much space we will need. Per Penny, list of available greens is not yet availablefrom Cavicchio's
