Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job
To drive any Lagan Valley Rural Transport minibus in a safe and responsible manner and to provide a high standard of customer care to all passengers and act in a responsible and courteous manner at all times when undertaking all duties for Lagan Valley Rural Transport.
Area of work
You are expected to work throughout the Rural Lisburn City Council area and on occasion travel outside the Council area.
Hours of work
This position is of a voluntary nature and you are under no obligation to accept any work within the company, but having accepted you have the responsibility to come to work.
Your availability for work shall be agreed with you in advance.
Please note: Due to the nature of the services provided by LaganValley Rural Transport, successful applicants will be subject to enhanced Access NI clearance
KEY TASKS:
- Transport all passengers to and from their authorised locations. You will be required to work with a wide range of people, including children, elderly and vulnerable adults.
- To provide assistance to passengers, if required, to and from the vehicle and their pickup and destination locations.
- To carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately to the Rural Transport Manager.
- Ensure that, as far is reasonably practicable, all scheduled timings are adhered to.
- To complete all necessary paperwork, e.g. logsheets, fuel issue sheets, defect reports.
- Wash the vehicle, at least weekly, and ensure that the interior is kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Regularly check all safety and medical equipment on board the vehicle and ensure that any replacement items required are reported to the Rural Transport Manager immediately.
- To immediately record and report details of any accident/untoward incident to the vehicle, passengers or third party (regardless of severity) and obtain contact details of any witnesses.
- To account for any fares collected and complete an official handover of fares with the relevant authorised person at the end of each shift.
- Report any comments or complaints from passengers to the Rural Transport Manager and maintain a courteous and professional manner at all times when dealing with passengers and members of the public.
- To undertake any other duties as may from time to time be requested by the Rural Transport Manager.
Person Specification
Essential
- A full, clean standard UK Driving Licence.
- Hold a standard UK Driving Licence for a minimum of 2 years.
- Aged between 21 and 68 years of age.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable
- Previous experience of minibus driving.
- MiDAS Certificate and/or PCV Licence.
- Hold a Driving Licence with a D1 entitlement.
- Basic First Aid qualification.
- Awareness of the needs of people with disabilities.
- Geographical knowledge of rural Lisburn.
