St. Francis Medical Center Summer College Internship Program - 2010
The St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) Volunteer Services Internship program is an opportunity for college level students to receive hands on experience working in a health care environment. We ask that college students commit to 100 hours of service during the summer months to allow an opportunity for career awareness and "hands on" experience. This is an unpaid internship. Student interns will work in a variety of placements to obtain exposure in a number of areas within the hospital setting. Students will be required to accomplish the following during their internship.
· Volunteer a minimum of 100 hours during the internship
· Volunteer a minimum of 6 weeks and at least 12 hours weekly. A vacation of up to 2 weeks is permissible during the internship but that would be in addition to the 6 week requirement.
· Work flexible hours. Students will receive a weekly list of regular volunteer vacancies and absences which they will be able to choose from.
· Work in a minimum of at least 4 different placements for at least 12 hrs each. This will provide more exposure to the healthcare environment.
We will not be able to provide written or verbal confirmation that your internship has been completed until you have logged in 100 hours. Any paperwork or documentation the student requires from the SFMC Volunteer Services Department must be presented at the start of the internship.
Selection of a student intern in this program will depend upon the student's related experiences, demonstrated abilities, good interpersonal and team building skills and the ability to work independently. Students interested in pursuing a health care related field will be given higher priority. All students must turn in a volunteer internship application, after which reference checks will be sent out. An interview will be part of the application process. After acceptance, interns will be required to attend a 4hour internship orientation and complete 2 TB test series. When requirements are completed, and all required documents have been submitted, the student may begin on the job training for volunteer placements.
The deadline for submission of Internship applications is April 4th, 2011.
Final decisions on Intern selections will made by May 9th, 2011. Questions concerning the internship may be directed to Dede Foerster by emailing Interns will be required to attend a 4 hour orientation during the week of May 23rd.
