JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Falls Prevention Trainer

Responsible to: Project Officer

Location: 200 Rookery Lane, Aldridge, Walsall WS9 8NP

Salary: £19,250 pro rata

Hours: 18 per week

Contract: Until March 2018

Main Purpose

  • To work directly with organisations and professionals with the aims of improving their capacity to support individuals with falls prevention techniques.
  • To support organisations and professionals by providing falls prevention information, whilst building fall risk reducing activities into their mainstream work.

Duties

  • Devise and deliver effective training on falls risk factors, mitigating activities and how to support others to conduct self assessments.
  • Promote effective community engagement around falls prevention and support organisations and professionals to deliver messages in a positive way which maximises take up.
  • Support community groups to identify how existing activities can incorporate / promote falls reduction activities such as strength and balance.
  • Work in partnership with local voluntary sector and statutory service providers to develop a Falls Prevention Network to strengthen links and create better referral pathways.
  • Devise and deliver training and support to volunteer Falls Prevention Champions.
  • Work with the Falls Prevention Worker to develop a range of information which is easily accessible in a variety of formats.

  • Record outputs and contribute to progress reports and project evaluations.

  • Represent Age UK Walsall on appropriate steering groups, committees and meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, data protection, Adult Safeguarding and all other relevant internal policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in regular supervision sessions and annual appraisal/performance development reviews.
  • Ensure service users are dealt with in a manner that is compatible with the individual’s culture and religious beliefs.
  • Attend appropriate training as identified by yourself and/or your line manager.
  • Proactively work as a member of the wider organisation, attending staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Be prepared to work flexible or extended hours in line with business requirements and as agreed with your line manager.
  • To undertake other duties commensurate with the service and smooth running of Age UK Walsall.

  • Educated to at least A’ Level or equivalent
  • Adult Education and Training qualification eg PTLLS or similar

Abilities and Experience
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working within the voluntary or health and social care sectors.
  • Experience of providing training or guidance to people delivering a community based service.
  • Competent IT skills – ability to use Microsoft packages, in-house databases, email and internet.
  • Ability to engage with individuals or groupson a variety of levels
  • Experience of working in a diverse environment, recognising the different needs of people and the provision of service with equality of access
  • Experience of working on own and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage own workload, and complete tasks to a high standard within deadlines

Knowledge
  • In depth knowledge of the factors which contribute to falls in later life and ways to minimise these risks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues that can affect people aged 50 years and over.
  • Knowledge of the issues currently facing the voluntary sector and volunteers.
