Announcements
· Commonwealth Mass Media Campaign to Reduce NPS Pollution. EPA 319h grant funded project that will use media products to educate citizens about nonpoint source pollution. Will be focused on the Upper Cumberland Basin and should begin later in 2006. Sponsored by Kentucky Environmental Education Council. This project also includes funding to print an updated version of the Upper Cumberland/Four Rivers Basin Status Report.
· The Commonwealth Clean Water Education Project website is now live for public viewing. www.inyourwater.org.
· As part of the Commonwealth Clean Water Education Project KET has produced a documentary on water in Kentucky called Common Ground: Cleaner Water. The program will air on April 7th at 10 PM on KET1 and again on April 9th at 3:30 PM on KET 2.
· Mill Branch of Stinking Creek is undergoing a major rehab project for Blackside dace habitat.
· The Cumberland Valley RC&D is taking applications for Private Stewardship Grants. The grants can be used to fund a number of agricultural practices. The projects must include habitat restoration and enhancement for rare and declining species. Grants are funded at 90% with 10% match by landowner. For more info contact Rodney Hendrickson.
· USFS is will be asking the county to assume responsibility of roads on Cromer Ridge after the restoration project is complete. They are also asking that the roads be closed during construction.
Corbin City Reservoir WIP
The Watershed Implementation Plan for the Corbin City Reservoir is nearly complete and should be finished by late spring. Third Rock Consultants is initiating an effort to seek additional funding for implementation of key components of the plan. The first meeting will be March 29th at noon.
Lake Linville Source Water Protection
Stakeholders meeting to safeguard Lake Linville are in the process of developing a proposal for a watershed plan. The proposal will be submitted for EPA 319h funding and will include funding for a watershed plan as well as implementation. The next Lake Linville meeting is April 12th at 10 AM.
