2018 TOURNAMENT RULES

  1. All entrants must be members of the Somerset-Hunterdon U.S.B.C. Association for the current seasonand must be prepared to show upon request their current individual USBC Membership card. Non-members living within the jurisdiction of this association who are not members of another association may enter by purchasing an affiliate membership fee (Article 6, Section B USBC Constitution page 3).
  2. Team Captains, Singles and Doubles entrants must check in at least ½ hr. prior to their scheduled starting time.
  3. There are 2 Team Segments to this tournament. There is a Ladies ONLY Segment, which will consist of a team of 4 Females and the Open Division which can consists of any combination of Male and/or Females of 5 Bowlers. The Open Division can have 5 males and even 5 females or a mix if desired, but only Females can enter the Ladies Division. Each Segment will have its own prize list based on the entries.
  4. The Captain of a Team or a representative, and a Doubles Team, can substitute other eligible bowlers in the exact line-up position as those originally entered
  5. The Tournament Director shall have the final decision as to all dates assigned.
  6. Doubles entrants will bowl immediately following their Singles event.
  7. All entrants will bowl 3 games on one pair of lanes in each event. Teams will be matched according to averages wherever possible and each pair of lanes will be assigned by blind draw, by the Tournament Committee.
  8. No entry fees will be refunded if it is discovered that a Team or individual has failed to comply with all rules and eligibility requirements of the USBC and this Tournament. Further any person who bowls under an assumed name, and any Team that uses a person who assumes the name of another, shall both individually and collectively forfeit their entry and all prize money. All such individuals shall be subject to suspension from the USBC.
  9. Handicap will be 100% based on a 230 average. Averages will be determined on the following basis:

(a) Bowlers highest S-HBA or/ S-HWBA (whichever is highest), certified league average for the previous season based on a minimum of 21 games.

(b) If no previous season average, bowler will take the highest S-HUSBCBA or/ S-HUSBCWBA certified league average as of March 1st of the current season based on a minimum of 21 games. Use of a current season average requires a certification of average and the number of games bowled, from the secretary of each league in which 21 games or more have been bowled. Such certification must accompany this entry.

(c) If a bowler does not qualify under (a) or (b) above but has established an average based on at least 21 games or more in a S-HUSBCBA or S-HUSBCWBA Summer league and is USBC Certified in a league in this season, they must use said average.

(d) Bowlers who do not qualify under either (a), (b) or (c) but are members of the S-HUSBCA and have a USBC membership card may enter the Tournament using their highest USBC Average from the 2015-2016 Season. If absolutely no previous average, the bowler will enter with a scratch average of 230.

(e) Bowlers who do not qualify under either (a), (b), (c) or (d) but are members of the S-HUSBA and have a USBC membership card may enter the Tournament using highest USBC BA or USBC WBA or USBC Merged certified league average as of March 1st of the current season based on a minimum of 21 games. Use of a current season average requires a certification of average and the number of games bowled, from the secretary of each league in which 21 games or more have been bowled. Such certification must accompany this entry.

(f) If absolutely no previous average, the bowler will enter with a scratch average of 230.

9. The tournament committee reserves the right to re-rate a bowler, according to Rule 319e.

10. It is the responsibility of each bowler to verify the accuracy of their average, whether submitted by the bowler, Team captain or others for use in this Tournament. Failure to use the proper average or to make corrections prior to or by completion of the first game of the series shall disqualify score(s) is the submitted average is lower than the actual average. Prize winnings will be based on the submitted average if it is higher.

11. The scratch basis for calculating handicap is 1150 for the 5 Person Teams and 920 for the 4 Person Female Teams, 460 for the Doubles and 230 for the Singles. In reporting averages all fractions should be dropped. Thus, a bowler with an average of 169.99 would enter with a 169 average.

2018 TOURNAMENT RULES

12. The Ten-Pin Rule (USBC Rule 319A part 2) will apply for this Tournament. Every entrant must supply their highest USBC average as of March 1, 2018 on this application. If their average is 10 pins or higher, that average will be used for this Tournament.

13. In the event of a tie for first place, in Team, Doubles Singles and All-Events the contestants so tied shall roll three games (in accordance with the rules of this Tournament) at a time and place as directed by the Tournament Director. Ties for any other positions qualified for prizes shall equally divide the prizes for all positions for which they are tied

  1. TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION RULES:

(a) When four or more members of a Team already entered in this Tournament bowl together on another Team they can place only once in the prize list for gross and/or net position standing.

(b) All-Events scores will consist of the FIRST 9 games bowled by the bowler on a Net (Scratch) basis with the exception of Class C and will consist of: 3 games in Team Event, 3 games in the Singles Event and 3 games in the Doubles Event no matter which entry the All Events fee have been paid through. All-Events Classes break down as follows:Class A (200avg. and above) Class B (175 to 199avg.) and Class C (174 avg. and below)this final class will include the above scores with handicap (see rule 8). If assuming the All-Events entry fee paid by another bowler, the substitute must report the proposed transfer to the Tournament Director prior to rolling in the first scheduled event. If found eligible, said bowler must then compete in the event class determined by the entering average.

(c) A bowler cannot bowl with more than one Team and or Singles/Doubles on one shift.

(d) A bowler may bowl in the Team event as often as desired with no limitations, except as noted in part (a) to this rule.

(e) A bowler may bowl in the Singles and Doubles event only twice, but in no case shall the bowler place more than once in the Doubles prize list with the same partner. A bowler may place only once in the Singles prize list. Multiple participation in Singles and Doubles, require the bowler to participate in both events for each entry.

(f) Unmarried, grade and high school students, who have not attained the age of eighteen (18), must have a written consent of their parents or guardian to bowl in this Tournament, in accordance with United States Bowling Congress rules.

  1. USBC Association Championship Awards will be awarded to the Net and Gross winners in Team, Singles & Doubles. All Events Awards will be given to Net Winners in Classes A and B and the Gross Winner in Class C.
  2. The prize ratio is at least one (1) out of every seven-(7) entries for Team, Doubles and Singles events. For All-Events, the prize ratio is at least one (1) out of every ten-(10) entries.

(a)Prize fees in Team, Singles and Doubles events will be apportioned:60% for Handicap score prizes and 40% for Actual score prizes.

(b)IN THE EVENT OF A FIRST PLACE TIE IN ANY EVENT, THE NET PLACEMENT WILL SUPERCEDE THE HANDICAP PLACEMENT FOR AWARDS.

(c)All bowlers shall receive the highest money place in either actual or handicap. BOWLERS WILL NOT CASH IN ACTUAL AND HANDICAP IN THE SAME EVENT. BOWLERS’ PARTICIPATING TWICE IN DOUBLES MAY CASH ONCE IN ACTUAL AND HANDICAP WITH DIFFERENT PARTNER.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY AND MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE FULL ENTRY FEES, OR THEY WILL BE RETURNED TO THE CAPTAIN.
