Course Description
Advanced placement (AP) chemistry provides a review of the concepts from general chemistry and includes additional topics such as kinetics, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. The course also introduces some basic principles in nuclear and organic chemistry. As in general chemistry, students will participate in laboratory exercises in order to gain a better understanding of the concepts studied. Near the conclusion of the year, students will take the AP Chemistry Exam. With scores from this test, students can receive college credit.

Attendance and Homework
All assignments must be turned in on time to receive full credit. Once an assignment is submitted, the work will not be returned until it is graded. Some assignments will not be accepted after the due date while others can be submitted the next day of class for half credit. When students are absent, assignments are due when they return to class. It is the students’ responsibility to find out what was done while they were absent.
Grading
Students will complete outlines and/or problems each chapter and may have some other homework depending on the topic. After finishing a chapter, students will take a quiz, and after finishing two or three chapters, the students will have an exam similar in setup to the AP Exam. The test will include multiple-choice and multi-part free response questions. All labs will be included in the lab notebook. Semester grades will be based on the two nine-week grades (40% each) and the semester exam (20%).
