/

What to print and submit

(10) / Create a Brochure for your Small Business (Use a Template):
·  Pick a template and build a brochure for your small business. Don’t use all of the default settings for the template – make it your own!
·  Some Ideas: Use your Web site and other assignments as source information for the brochure. Build the brochure with the Web site design in mind. The brochure doesn’t have to be end-to-end full of text – you can add images, clip art, and other things that you can think of that are relevant.
o  The brochure might focus on the products/services you offer, it might use content from your newsletter (Word assignment), or it may explore other topics.
·  You have a lot of latitude with this assignment. However, you are required to use a wide-variety of features in Publisher, including:
o  WordArt with shadow effect or 3D effect
o  Clip Art
o  Pictures (Use pictures from your Web site, if you want)
§  Picture styles (from the Picture Tools Format tab)
o  A variety of features from the Insert tab, Building Blocks group
o  At least two shapes
o  Coupon (from the Advertisements command in the Building Blocks group)
o  Table with some relevant data (insert table from Insert tab)
o  Complementary Harmony (Somewhere in the brochure)
§  The colors need to be next to each other for full effect
·  Print the brochure, fold it properly, and attach to this sheet.
Printing in Black and White is okay.
·  Email the brochure to me as an attachment.

o  I will look at your color scheme, and for the usage of a complementary harmony.
This activity will be graded by letter grade (A+, A, A- B+, B, etc.). While grading I will be looking for inventive, well-crafted work that goes beyond the minimum requirements listed above. / Print:
·  As indicated in the column to the left.
·  Attach to this cover sheet in the order listed.
·  Email the brochure as an attachment before class begins.
·  Email to:

(5) / Create a Black and White Newspaper Advertisement for your Small Business (From Scratch):
·  Build a new, blank, Publisher file that is 5” by 5” in size.
·  Add a border that is along the edge of the 5” by 5” ad (when you print this will show you the edges of your ad).
·  Use a bar (Insert tab, Borders and Accents command) in a creative way – perhaps to highlight the top or bottom of the ad, or the left or right.
·  Create your own attention grabber from scratch.
Come up with a design different from what we created in class, and different from the prefabricated Publisher building blocks.
The attention grabber should utilize at least one shape, one callout or star/banner, and one text box for the callout text.
Add a shadow effect to the callout or star/banner.
·  Use WordArt with shadow effect, 3D effect, or other enhanced appearance settings.
·  Use Clip Art or Picture
·  Create your own coupon from scratch, and put it in one of the corners.
The coupon must consist of a dashed border, at least one shape, and text.
·  Include all of the basic information necessary: the name of your business, where it is located, hours, and what the purpose of the advertisement is… is it a special sale?
·  You can look online, or in newspapers or magazines for design inspiration.
·  Print in Black in White (if you have a color printer, you may print in color).
·  You do not need to email the advertisement.
·  This activity will be graded by letter grade (A+, A, A- B+, B, etc.). While grading I will be looking for inventive, well-crafted work that goes beyond the minimum requirements listed above.
