I.  Title: SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: President

Supervises: Administrative/support staff as required

Coordinates with: University leadership, faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and public and private officials

II.  Statement of the Job: Reporting to the President and working with the University

Leadership team, this position is charged with completing various projects and tasks in support of the President’s strategic and operational goals and initiatives

III.  Essential Functions:

·  Assists with strategic day-to-day leadership and direction for the President’s Office

·  Utilizes Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

·  Performs complex tasks, prioritizes, and organizes multiple projects, and analyzes, summarizes and effectively presents information

·  Will autonomously assume responsibility, exercise independent judgment, and make sound decisions as necessary

·  Will utilize strong management skills, including planning, prioritizing, implementing, and evaluating; will be required to think strategically and be opportunity-minded.

·  Will completes research and report assignments

·  Wills serve as liaison to various University offices and personnel

·  Will serve on selected committees, task forces, and work teams

·  Will support the President on an as-directed basis

IV.  SPECIAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES*:

·  Ability to drive colleagues, students or others and provide proof of a valid driver’s license.

·  Ability to provide own transportation (fully-insured vehicle), provide proof of a valid driver’s license, and compliance with Maine law regarding vehicle insurance.

·  Work on federally funded projects.

·  Admin and support staff as required; project teams as required

·  Frequent telephone, personal, and written contact with university and System administrative and academic departments; students and parents of students; members of the business and educational communities; representatives of state agencies, national affiliates, and members of the University’s Board of Visitors; University committees involving both employees and community members; and the general public.

·  Ability to plan, operationalize and move initiatives forward

·  Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

·  Anticipates needs, makes judgments, and independently designs improved processes

·  Facilitates special projects, as assigned

·  Familiar with higher education administration

·  Working knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures

·  Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned

·  Ability to maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism in a fast-paced office

·  Ability to communicate effectively

IX.  Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

·  Master’s degree plus 5+ years of work experience in a college, university, or similarly complex organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·  Experience in planning, analyzing, communicating, and managing
