To assist clinic in clerical duties.

Medical Diagnostic Unit

To provide patients with directions to their appointments upon entering the floor.

Oncology

To provide comfort, support and information to clients in the oncology wards.

Operating Room

Assist in providing a communication link between operating room/recovery room staff and relatives/friends of patients making each party aware of present circumstances.

Patient Relations

To support the Patient Relations Department by providing hospitality, customer service, information, directions and resource material to patients, family members and visitors.

Radiology

Provide direction and support to outpatients referred for radiology procedures.

Volunteer Resources Clerical

To complete minor clerical duties, answering telephones, making calls, data entry, filing, photocopying and coverage when staff are absent

SOCIAL SUPPORT

Friendly Visitor

To provide support for the patients who have had heart diseases in Cardiac Care Clinic.

Geriatric Outpatient Clinic

To greet arrivals and ensure they have been registered.

Library Cart Service

To provide individual patients with access to donated reading materials and opportunities for social interaction.

Occupational Therapy Coffee Social

To provide entertainment and conversation to patients as well as prepare refreshment trays.

Palliative Care

Provide patients and their families with a sympathetic person through the bereavement process.

Performing Arts Program

To enhance student and adult experience by providing entertainment to patients, family members, visitors and staff.

UNIT ACTIVITY SUPPORT

Emergency

To provide hospitality, customer service, information and other comfort needs to patients and their family members.

Emergency Volunteer Convenor

To coordinate the Emergency Department Volunteer Program with “core” team members.

Physiotherapy Assistant

To assist in the preparation of physiotherapy programs and activities.

Team Captain

To provide leadership for student volunteers in the Ward Service Program.

To provide assistance to patients and staff by completing all tasks as required.

To raise funds for the Volunteer Association for the purchase of capital items for patient care, through the selling of lottery tickets.

Volunteer Placement Process

  1. Application Form To become a volunteer at Hamilton Health Sciences, the first step is to complete an Application Form (attach resume if available). If there is a suitable opening, you will be invited to an Information Session.
  1. Information Session Theses sessions are

Held monthly at each hospital. The purpose of the session is to provide individuals with education and communication in regards to Hamilton Health Sciences, Volunteer Resources, Volunteer Opportunities and Hamilton Sciences Volunteer Association. Fire and Safety training will be provided.

  1. Interview with a Volunteer Coordinator to

Determine qualifications, ability and suitability for volunteer placement.
