Current Events:Yeah! We have completed our PALS and Math Universal Screens.Wewill start our reading groups to better meet the needs of our students; thus, your child will be coming home with homework on Tuesday. We also welcomed Ms. Turner on Monday and she will be with our class for the next 9 weeks. Ms. Turner is sending home with your child a letter to introduce her to your family.

Language Arts:The children have continued hearing stories by Eric Carle and writing in our journals using color and number words. We have continued learning and practicing the tall lower case letter strokes for h and k, as well as short letters I and u. They are making great progress in using the lines to size their letters, as well as learning the proper strokes to form the letters.

Math:The children did a great job finding sums with their rekenrek, developing number bonds (what numbers combine to equal a number). After reading, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, the children drew a collection of fish and wrote the story problem to match their pictures and solved it. Today, we practiced the strategy of counting on 0, 1, or 2, adding on to the bigger number to add more efficiently.

Science: We have watched our 2 Monarch caterpillars change this week into their pupas or chrysalises! We are keeping a tally chart to determine how long it takes to turn into butterflies. In our Science texts, we read about the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. As we read and learn more about butterflies, we are illustrating a story about the Monarch’s life cycle.Vocabulary words to review with your child include: egg, larvae/caterpillar, pupa/chrysalis, butterfly, and metamorphosis.
