A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of the late Lucy Rhoads Villines.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and sincere tribute to the late Lucy Rhoads Villines and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Lucy Rhoads Villines was born December 19, 1914, in Ballard County, Kentucky to the late James and Ruby Page, and departed this earthly life October 10, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Lucy Rhoads Villines was the proud mother of four children, Lee Allen Rhoads, Jr., of Huntsville, Alabama; Jerry Page Rhoads and Thomas M. Rhoads, both of Madisonville; and Philip S. Rhoads of Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Villines was the loving grandmother of seven grandchildren, Jenny Jordan, Brad, Chris, Liegh, Eliza, and Cecelia Rhoads; the loving great-grandmother of nine great-grandchildren; and the loving aunt of one niece and four nephews; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Villines was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Allen Rhoads, in 1976; her second husband, Chester Lee Villines, who died in 1977; and one grandson, Scott Rhoads, who passed in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Villines was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Temple since 1939, having served as church organist for 30 years and also worked as a Sunday School teacher at the Temple, in addition to serving as past Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, she was also a lifetime member of the board of the Salvation Army, and served her community for 25 years as a piano and organ instructor; and

WHEREAS, at age 90, Mrs. Villines continued to play the piano, participate in water aerobics three times a week, work on her autobiography, write poetry, and minister through the kitchen band she organized and which continues to bring joy to senior citizens in nursing homes and other health care facilities; and

WHEREAS, Lucy Rhoads Villines leaves a legacy of service, devotion to family, faith, and love, and every quality that makes for a life well-lived;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lucy Rhoads Villines, and extends to her family and friends its heartfelt sympathy and gratitude for the legacy she leaves behind.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lucy Rhoads Villines.
