4. Frequently Asked Questions

When may I begin applying to employers?

The application window opens on July 5, 2007.

Is there a benefit to applying well in advance of the deadline?

The employers will receive all of the applications electronically at the same time. They will not know when you applied. However, there are 8 schools using the same system. There may be long delays if students wait until the deadline to upload their materials. If you miss the upload deadline for any reason, we will not extend the deadline.

Do all of the job fairs have the same deadlines?

No. Each job fair has its own set of deadlines. Be sure that you are following the appropriate timeline for each city.

If I do not upload all of the requested materials will the employer still receive my application?

No. You must upload all of the materials that the employer requests in order for your application to be sent.

If I am selected for an interview, how will I be notified?

On the appropriate date (see the timelines), you will log on to the NLSCSymplicity site and click on the “Interview” tab. If you have been selected for an interview, you will need to select an interview time.

What happens if I am selected for an interview, but neglect to select an interview time before the “student interview sign-up deadline?”

You will lose your interview. If you are selected for an interview, then you must log on to the NLSC Symplicitywebsite and select an interview time before the “student interview sign-up deadline” for each city.

What happens if I am selected as an alternate?

If there is space available, then you will have the opportunity to schedule an interview, on a first come, first served basis, on the “alternate sign-up day.” (See the timelines)

When will I be able to see my interview time?

You will be able to access your interview time approximately 9 days before the job fair, by choosing the “Interview” tab on Symplicity.

If I am selected for an interview, do I have to attend the job fair?

If you submit an application and are selected to interview, you should attend the program. Canceling interviews hurts the reputations of all of the participating schools and jeopardizes the future participation of that employer in the job fair program.

The NLSC cancellation policy is that for Philadelphia and New York, if a student is chosen for at least one interview, he or she must attend the job fair. For Chicago and San Francisco, if a student receives two or more interviews, he or she must attend the job fair.

Where will the interviews take place?

The interviews in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco will take place in hotel suites (rooms have a separate living area). You should treat these interviews exactly like an interview on-campus or in an employer’s office. The Philadelphia interviews will take place in the employers’ offices.

Do I need to stay for the entire program?

No. You only need to check-in at the student registration table and attend your interview. Please be aware that there may be major traffic delays in these cities. You should plan to arrive at least an hour in advance of your scheduled interview time. Also, some interviewers may run behind schedule. Make your travel arrangements accordingly.

Will there be a place at the hotel for me to store my belongings or rest and relax?

Yes. There will be a student lounge at every job fair except Philadelphia, because that is a walk-around program.

Will someone from George Mason or the other law schools attend the job fairs?

A representative from CAAS is scheduled to attend the New Yorkjob fair. Representatives from the other law schools will attend the other job fairs. CAAS will be able to contact the on-site representative. If you need assistance, please call 703-993-8020.
