Criteria and Core Competencies for Board Service

CRITERIA FOR BOARD SERVICE:

  • Completed application
  • Candidate is a regular* IAFN member in good standing
  • Candidate is willing to serve the required term of the elected office
  • Candidate is not a current member of the Nominating Committee
  • Candidate is able to attend monthly Board meetings via conference call and the Annual Conference
  • Candidate is active in the role/promotion of forensic nursing
  • Candidate is committed to participating in activities required of Board members
  • For candidates seeking the Treasurer’s position, some financial management experience is preferred
  • Candidate has no conflict of interest ( ex: no financial or business commitments to IAFN staff, vendors or contractors, or to a position with any other organization which presents a conflict at the time the IAFN office would be assumed).

[1] * Regular Member: A person who has been formally accepted for membership and is engaged in forensic nursing practice, who is a registered nurse in good standing with the licensing boards in the jurisdiction of practice, and whose professional orientation is toward forensic nursing. Regular members may vote and hold office in the organization.

The Board of Directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the International Association of Forensic Nurses.

BOARD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Determining how the organization carries out its mission through long-range and short-range planning and review
  • Adopting an annual budget and providing fiscal oversight
  • Recruiting, orienting and developing Board members
  • Hiring and evaluating the performance of the Chief Executive Officer
  • Evaluating its performance and the overall performance of the organization in achieving its mission
  • Establishing policies for the effective management of the organization
