Analyzing a film: A Review of Film Language

Assignment is due on Tuesday March 1st. No Late assignments accepted.

Watch a film. Consider watching a film directed by one of the 25 Greatest Film Directors of all times (according to Movie Maker Magazine) (Extra points)

·  Identify the director, the actors. Provide a synopsis of the film. ( brief summary)

·  Identify the genre. Explain how this film fits this genre.

·  Choose three scenes that impressed you from the movie. Describe the reason each of the scenes impressed you. Why did the director make the choices he or she did? Using correct film terminology (see elements of film handout, InPoint hand out), address the following in your analysis of each scene:

o  Mise en Scene

o  Lighting

o  Camera angle

o  Framing of shots

o  Sound

Also consider- special effects, motion, transitions and narrative structure.

·  The title, director, important actors in the film

·  A brief synopsis (summary)

·  Explanation of what film genre

·  Three scenes identified from the movie

·  Description of the Mise en Scene, camera angle, framing, sound, lighting and reason why it is appropriate

·  at least one other element of the scene that is effective.

·  Specific details to support your analysis.

·  No grammatical or spelling errors, varied sentence structure, well developed paragraphs
