Spanish 1 – Miss Ruzanski

2014-15

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide an introduction to fundamental Spanish grammar and vocabulary and is intended for the beginning student. Upon completion of the course students will have developed a basic proficiency with the Spanish language.

Required Text: Realidades Level 1

Required Supplies: Writing utensil & Master Notebook. Text book. Optional: Spanish Dictionary

Grading Policy:

All assignments are based on a points system:

  1. Homework/Classwork – You will be assigned worksheets and some homework assignments. These must be completed on time and will be checked off (see attached homework rubric)
  2. Quizzes/Assessments– There will be a quiz nearly every week, a department wide oral assessment once a term, various small projects, as well as a final exam
  3. Participation – Making positive contributions to class

Grading weights are as follows:

Homework/Class work = 30%

Assessments (oral, projects, quizzes) = 60%

Participation = 10%

Please note that the BVT grading policy for calculating the Overall Year Grade is as follows:

T1 x.30 + T2 x .30 + T3 x .30 + Final Exam Grade x .10

Final Course averages will be based on the whole-number grade reported on Report Cards for each term plus Final Exam grade if applicable.

HomeworkPolicy-

  1. Students will be expected to fully complete any homework before class starts and have it ready to be checked by a teacher or handed in when class begins.
  2. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points. If they are passed in late, you will receive 3 points. You will get a zero for any assignment not passed in, and if the work is done carelessly, or partially you could get a 1, 2, 3 or 4. A late assignment will never receive more than 3 points.
  3. Class Work- Sometimes I will give class work activities that I will collect for a grade. They will be worth anywhere between 5-30 points. Classwork will be accepted late, but no less than 3 points will be subtracted from the final grade of the assignment.

Quiz Policy –

  1. Students absent immediately previous to or on the day of a quiz will be expected to make up the quiz during scheduled extra help sessions after school as soon as possible.
  2. There will be no retakes on quizzes. If student receives a failing grade, they may come after school for extra help, and points will be awarded to the grade once the subject is fully understood, and the failing grade will change to a passing grade

Class Participation –

  1. Students will be expected to come to class organized and prepared to learn.
  1. Students will be expected to pay attention during lecture and take notes as appropriate.
  2. Learning a new language requires active participation if you want to be successful. You will get a participation grade at the end of each term. It will be 10 points if you participate every day, and 8-9 if you participate once in a while, and so on.

Absences –

  1. Students who are absent on a day of class will be expected to approach their instructor before or after class on their next day in school (this includes shop days) to receive their missing work or homework assignments.
  2. Absent students will not be penalized for work missed provided it is turned in the day after they return to school.

Extra Help –

  1. After school help is available every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 3 pm. This is the best time for the review or make up of homework, tests and quizzes, or notes. Please give your instructor advanced notice if you are coming in to make up a quiz.
  2. As after school time generally allows for more individual instruction or review, students are strongly encouraged to come to after school help if they have any questions or problems not resolved during class time. Students are welcome to ask about their grade or receive a progress report during this time.

Website-

(Miss Ruzanski – Spanish 1 & 2)

This website was created to help you. There will be links to all worksheets and homework assignments will be posted daily. If you ever forget your materials, the information is available on the website, and if ever you are absent, you will have the daily activities listed as well as the notes for the day if applicable so that you do not get too far behind. Feel free to use the dropbox for assignments at any time, and if you have a question about homework or anything please use the social forum tools there for you! We will all learn how to use this site in greater detail the first couple weeks of school. Each student will have a log in name/password, but we will create these together.
