New Year Message from the Town Mayor
2013 New Year Message from The Mayor
What a busy and wonderful 2012 is has been for the Mayoress and myself. Highlights were Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the town where over 7,000 people attended; and being part of the Town’s Twinning Association visit to Denzlingen in Germany.
Locally we have attended many functions such as the Bowls Club 50th Anniversary, the opening of the new Hykeham Camera Club and the Presentation Evening of 1237 (North Hykeham) Squadron Air Training Corps – something that I was very honoured to be involved in as I presently serve in the Territorial Army (shortly to be known as the Army Reserve).
Since being elected as Town Mayor in May 2012 I have attended over 75 civic events both in and around the town, along with some very special birthday parties at Beckside Nursing home for a couple of their 100 year old residents.
I am proud of the town in which I live, one that is one of the top towns to live, work and do business in. This follows its high ranking as part of a national index that compares an areas quality of life, thus reaffirming my view that the town should enjoy its reputation as one of the best places in the UK to live, work and enjoy leisure time. We are fortunate that residents can enjoy favourable home sizes of good quality and affordability, high academic achievement at local schools and have a large proportion of the population regarding themselves as in good health.
The Town Council can be justifiable proud of delivering high quality services and events that enhance the lives of the towns residents. The Town Council and myself are committed to improve all aspects of life in the town, and play an active part in any partnerships, and initiatives where we are not the directly responsible organisation.
I am looking forward to 2013 and my continued time in office to forward the Council’s future progress.

On behalf of North Hykeham Town Council I would like to thank everyone for attending the music events that we held during August and September on what is still the traditional "Village Green" in North Hykeham. On average 150 people attended each event and its success is down to "you" the local residents. From the fantastic 11 piece " Soul solution" the wild Hicksville Bombers, the soothing Accapella Steel Band to the top local covers band "Spot On".
We tried to cover a variety of music tastes to suit everyone. I would however like to apologise for the Non availability of the booked Brass Band whom cancelled ten days before their performance which was due to ill health, we did try to source six other Brass Bands from Lincoln, Sleaford, Market Rasen and Cleethorpes areas but unfortunately they were all unavailable.
I would also like to thank everyone who emailed our office to say how much you enjoyed the atmosphere and that you felt it was "great" that the local Town Council had organised the events for the local residents, to be honest on behalf of North Hykeham Town Council it was a privilege to do so. Many thanks for your overwhelming support.
A meeting will shortly take place to discuss what we got right and wrong but we are hopeful that there will be more to come in 2013. Watch this space!

Recent studies suggested that although you thought that Hykeham is a clean town it maybe lacked colour, and so members of the Environment Committee took this on board and set about a new floral vision for North Hykeham.
The first stage was to revamp North Hykeham crossroads at the junction of Newark Road/Moor Lane, this involved three new three tiered planters, one new bench and the repainting of the two original benches with one being re sited to form a "corner group" we hope you think it brightens up this area of the town.
We are hoping to create other floral areas in various parts of the town and a new gardening club is being set up involving local gardening residents and supported by some of your local councillors. This would involve twice a year planting schemes and a small amount of "maintenance and dead heading flowers" it doesn't matter how little or how much you can help and be involved, as they say "every little helps" if you can help Hykeham to score high on the floral front I would like to hear from you and let's all work towards a more colourful Hykeham.
I would like to thank the Gardening club who have helped North Hykeham Town Council over the many years whom have all now retired.
I would finally like to thank the gardening club once again for donating and arranging the planters at North Hykeham Crossroads for the so called "summer" of 2012 and also Pennells Nursery for their flower donation. We would also like to thank Hicksons (Spar Crossroads) and Martin Motor Company of Newark Road for their continued sponsorship of the ASDA Roundabout On behalf of myself and the Environment Committee a big thank you for all your help it is very much appreciated.
