Transcript for Campus Officer Question Time Panel Debate
Dave- Hello and welcome to the university of Wolverhampton Students’ Union Question Time. I’m Dave Anson, the Academic Vice-President. Today we’ll be asking questions to the part-time Officers going for the Campus Officer positions. So, can we start with introductions please?
Nasim: Hi! My name is Nasim Aktar Ansari and I’m standing for the Telford Officer position. Thank you!
Joanna: I’m Joanna Zielinska, I’m going for Walsall Campus Officer.
Dave: How will you make yourself known amongst students on your campus? We’ll start with you, Joanna.
Joanna: What I will definitely do is get heavily involved in Freshers’ Week, ‘cause it’s the best time to meet students when you’re there at Freshers’ Fair. When the students need help it’s the best time for students to get to know you.
Nasim: I will be regarding that all the friends and organising a party like, weekend parties, and meeting all the friends in the party.
Dave: So Nasim, what’s the biggest issues on your campus?
Nasim: The biggest issue is the canteen, and the second one is transportation. During lectures we get 3-4 hour leisure time, and we don’t get a lecture at that time, and there is not a shuttle service. Probably I will be looking for the shuttle service and I will be maintaining that leisure time for the students to, on that leisure time, they will get more time to study.
Dave: [to Nasim] How else do you think you could resolve those issues?
Nasim: Probably I will be checking up with the Unions and then I’ll be talking to the President and the Vice-President to solve the problem.
Dave: Joanna, what are the biggest issues on your campus?
Joanna: I’d say it’s the lack of social space on Walsall campus and the lack of activities happening there.
Dave: Ok, how do you think you could resolve those as a part-time officer?
Joanna: I think with the new Students’ Union space coming to Walsall next year, that will be quite straight-forward as long as people want to get involved and have more activities happening in the new Students’ Union space. Around the campus the kind of sports and activities, mostly sports events there, they can get involved in.
Dave: So Joanna, what makes your campus the best?
Joanna: Well I think it’s the mixture of people that live there, there’s lots of mature students, lots of young students and actually they get along. It is a very sociable campus even though there isn’t much happening on the campus students can [inaudible] to socialise and stuff.
Dave: And the same question Nasim, what makes your campus the best?
Nasim: There are lots of facilities which should be provided to the Engineering students, and our campus provide us, like library and softwares which are very important for Engineering students, and that our campus is providing us.
Dave: Nasim, why is it important for campuses to have officers?
Nasim: There are lots of reasons. There are lots of things which are not mentioned in campus, like, there are lots of problems which are not fulfilled by organisation of University on campuses. And Officers play a mediatorary between University and the students, which help the students to get advice to the University and campuses, so I think Officers should be there.
Dave: And the same question to you Joanna. Why is it important for campuses to have Officers?
Joanna: Because all students should be represented and their voices should be heard and if we don’t have them on campuses, nothing really happens there. Students have a meeting once and nothing’s been done the last few years because we haven’t had a Rep. So we need to make sure their voice is heard and facilities are provided.
Dave:Nasim, why should students vote for you?
Nasim: I’m very helpful and hard working and I’m very passionate about life. And I feel I will make every students’ life in the University some of the best days of their lives.
Dave: Thank you. And Joanna, why should students vote for you?
Joanna: Because I’m dedicated and very hard working and I’ve been representing international students over the last year and made a significant difference to their experience and I predict I can do the same for Walsall students next year.
Dave: Joanna, why is it important for students to vote in the elections?
Joanna: Because it’s their chance to have their voice heard. It’s their chance to say I want this person to represent me in my campus or just in general your needs and wants. So if you lose this chance you can’t go back next year if things are not going the way you would like them to.
Dave: And Nasim, the same question to you. Why is it important for students to vote in the elections?
Nasim: For making their voice more louder and clearer, through Officers and representatives.
Dave: Thank you for watching the Question Time debate. Voting’s between 4th-7th April, so don’t forget to register online.
