DUE DATE: November 14, 2011 or sooner

IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE.

You will receive a zero if you plagiarize.

1.  Rewrite a myth in modern English. Script it for two or more actors. Perform it for the class, using appropriate costumes, props, and sets. Must be at least 5 minutes in length.

2.  Pretend that you are an on-the spot newscaster reporting one of Odysseus’ adventures. Video-tape your report. Must be at least 3 minutes in length.

3.  Make a newspaper edition of the Ithaca Times for the day after Odysseus defeats the suitors. Include feature articles, editorials, news stories, ads, comics, and any other parts of a newspaper.

4.  Make a comic strip version of the epic. The number of frames should be no fewer than ten. Include thought bubbles or captions to convey the narration, dialogue, or what you thought the characters might have felt. Add color and make it professional.

5.  Create a board game based on the adventures of Odysseus. To get ideas, review each adventure and study your map. Study the rules for games that you already know for tips on writing the rules for your game. Decide whether players will move by choosing a card, rolling dice, or spinning a wheel. Design a board that allows for both forward and backward movement. Make sure your board game is original and not largely based on any board game already copyrighted.

6.  Odysseus reveals many facts about his ships during the narrative. Research the kinds of ships the Greeks used in 800B.C. and use your finding to make a 3-D model of a ship Odysseus might have sailed. You must include a two paragraph report on your research.

7.  Imagine that on Odysseus’ return to Ithaca he holds a press conference. Consider whether the members of the press would be friendly or antagonistic and what questions they might ask Odysseus. Think about how he might defend his actions. Record your conference on audio tape or video tape. Must be at least 3 minutes in length.

8.  Choose a character form the Odyssey to portray a three-dimensional work of art. You might sculpt the Cyclops from clay or create Scylla from tin cans and tubes.

9.  Make a video reenacting several scenes from the Odyssey. You may use outside actors. This video must be at least 6 minutes long.

10.  Create journals written by Odysseus and Penelope. Each journal should include the following: Ten handwritten, dated entries, photos (snapshots, sketches), and memorabilia (items they would have saved from their travels Ex: Telemachus’ first lock of hair). They must be neat, attractive, colorful, and bound.

You will be graded on originality: 15 pts; creativity: 15 pts; effort: 15pts; accuracy: 15pts; professionalism: 25 pts; grammar and language: 15 pts; final product: 50 pts. (If grammar and language is not applicable to your project, those points will be tacked on the final product.)
