Assistant Area Director Position (Graduate Assistant)

Purpose / To assist the Area Director or Associate Director with student engagement and student leadership, supervision of staff, and other operations in the assigned complex or building.
Responsibilities / Daily administrative tasks of the assigned building or complex.
Assist with training, evaluation, development, support, encouragement, and recognition of student staff consisting of Resident Assistants and Desk Managers.
Functionally supervise Resident Assistants in the areas of student engagement and community development functions.
Train, develop, support, encourage, and recognize student leaders.
Assist in development of department wide student leadership program.
Oversee at least one department wide programmatic effort per semester.
Serve as a University conduct hearing officer by conducting hearings, investigating alleged incidents, and determining outcomes in consultation with supervisor and/or the Director of Student Conduct and Resolution.
Serve in an on call rotation two to three weeks per semester.
Directly advise residence Area Council.
Actively participate in department committees/department initiatives.
Participate in fall and spring training for undergraduate and graduate student staff.
Complete responsibilities of the position in approximately 20 hours per week.
Schedule office hours for students and staff.
Requirements / Maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Satisfactorily complete a criminal background check as required by Minnesota state law.
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into a graduate program at MSUM.
Be present at opening and closing of residence halls
Be available starting July 24th.
Leadership experience in an area of student affairs and knowledge of residence hall student issues, programmatic functions, and student leadership. Previous experience in Residential Life preferred.
Be enrolled for a minimum of 9 credits. Registering for fewer than 9 credit hours may be allowed with permission from the Associate Director.
Compensation / Furnished apartment, to include major kitchen appliances, local phone service, cable, internet, heat, garbage, and utilities (estimated value $709/month). Semester stipend of $3,500. Nine credit hours of in-state graduate tuition and fees, as per MSUM Graduate School rates.
