3rd Grade Biome Project

Dear Parents,

In science we are studying biomes. Biomes are major communities of plants and animals. There are eight different biomes throughout the world. We are learning about where each biome is located, the plants and animals who live there, and the type of climate/environment each biome has.

Each year all of the 3rd Grade classes participate in a BIOME DAY – Our biome day this year will be held on Monday,October 31st. On this day, each classroom is assigned to a specific biome; the students in that class pick a particular plant or animal from the biome assigned to their classroom. We will literally transform our classroom to look like the Biome we have chosen. They complete a research project on that plant or animal, dress up as the plant or animal, and present it to the 3rd Grade classes throughout the day on Biome Day. Not only do your children get to present this to our class – Throughout the day the other 3rd grade classes will come in our room to hear our presentations and we will go to their rooms to hear theirs. It’s a very fun day for the students!

This year our class will present the RAINFOREST BIOME. During science this week your child will pick a plant or animal that he/she will present on Biome Day. I am attaching a grading rubric so that your student will know exactly what to include in his/her Biome project. All projects will be due on Wednesday, October 26th so that we will have plenty of time to practice our presentations before Biome day. Please sign and return the bottom portion of this sheet, so that I know you have received the information about this project.

Here are several websites that might be helpful when looking for information about the plant/animal you have chosen.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the Biome Day Project!
