1st North Gower Cub Pack

Program plan for 2008-2009

This year we will work on our Green and Tawny Stars and associated badges/awards. The focus for the fall and spring will be the Green star and the Tawny star will be the focus of the winter months. The pack has a lot of first years, (ten first years, five second years and one third year) so an emphasis will be on the basics of being a cub.

Sept 17: First meeting

This will be our first meeting of cubs and will be our opportunity to get to know one another and to get to know what it means to be a cub.

Sept 19-21: Rideau Region Cub Camp

This is the first camp of the year and will be held at Rideau Hills from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Focus on building friendships and transitioning from beavers to cubs. The camp will also contribute to the green star requirements.

Sept 24th Outdoor Activities at the Baxter Conservation center:

First hike, parents will be invited. Contributes towards the Green star requirements.

Oct 1ST :

Badge testing for older cubs and tenderpad requirements for new cubs.

Oct 4th: Its Apple day

Oct 8TH

Start on first aid/ survival kits and talking about how to dress for outdoor activities.

Oct 15th :

We’ll be working on the final preparation for investiture and reviewing completed survival kits. Also finalize the sixes.

Oct 22nd : Investiture:

Parents are invited.

Oct 29TH : CUB Halloween Party!!

Joint party with the Beavers for bridging exercise. Games will focus on team play and not on size and strength.

November 5th

Start the Tawny star, do craft for Remembrance day.

November 12th

Joint hike with the Beavers from the RA to the cenotaph in North Gower for a small Remembrance day ceremony.

November 19th – Food Drive

Tonight the cubs will be joining the scouts for a food drive to support the North Gower food bank. Cubs and scouts will be going door to door (followed by leaders) to collect donations for the local food bank.

November 26th – Badge Testing &Maps

This will be the first opportunity for the new cubs to earn some badges. We’ll also be discussing all about maps, different types of maps, how to read them, and even creating out own maps.

December 3rd

Tonight we’ll be starting a Christmas craft and practicing a carol for Christmas in the Gower for the Tawny Star.

December 5th – Christmas in the Gower

As part of the annual community based Christmas in the Gower festivities, Beavers, Cubs , Scouts and girl guides will all be participating in the event in some form or another.

December 10th

The cubs will be finishing their Christmas craft and brining it home.

December 17th

This will be a combined Christmas party with the Beavers. This will also be the last meeting until the new year.

January 7th, 2009

This will be the first meeting of the new year.

January 14th, Tobogganing

We plan on being outside for this entire meeting, and we intend to be tobogganing on the hill behind the RA. Cubs are to bring a sled and MUST wear a helmet if they want o go sledding

January 21st Semaphore

Learn about Semaphore and we will also be discussing the up coming Kub Kars.

January 28th , KUB KARS!

The Kub Kars will be handed out to each cub during this meeting and we will be making a start on the Kub Kars and talk about winter camp.

January 31st Feb 1st Winter Camp

This is an area event, at Connaught Rifle Range

February 4th , Kub KArs

Complete the cub cars.

February 11th , Badge testing

Badge testing.

February 18th , Navigating by stars

Prep skits and songs for the 25th and use stars for finding directions.

February 14th , KUB KARS!

North Gower hosts the Kub Kar ralley at the North Gower RA, with Scouts doing the canteen..

February 25th , BP Meeting

Campfire with the beavers, skits and songs – for the tawny star.

March 4th RC night

Joint meeting with the scouts, everyone brings radio controlled toys.

March – Badge testing and March Break

During March we’ll do badge testing again, and will suspend meetings during March break.

April – “Pitch in”

During April we will try to complete the Tawny star and we will perform a clean-up of the grounds around the RA, possibly with the Beavers. Also there will be an area “3rd year” sleepover April 25th.

May – Conservation project

Final badge testing. During May we will focus on the outdoors, we will try to arrange with the Baxter Conservation area a project that the cubs can complete to assist the conservation area. We will also be participating in the annual Scout trees drive. Additionally we will try and arrange a visit to the fire station.

June – Wrap-up

Start early registration discussion. Joint Beavers/ Cubs / Scouts going up ceremony, spring area camp June 5- 7. Cubs finishes with the final camp
