General Assembly

We started the GA with three Omkars followed by the Shanti Mantra. Aparna Aunty gave a special welcome to the newstudents who were starting Gurukul this year. She went over the rules to be following while the students are at Gurukul and especially during GA.
  • Cell phones should not be used.
  • You need to sit crisscross
  • Don't chew gum.
  • Don't talk during GA
We then chanted the Gurustotram.

Class

We started the class with introduction of existing and new students. We did review on what was covered in Class last year. This year we will be starting with values in the Bhagavad Gita. Kids were asked about what they know about Bhagavad Gita. Kids were further explained that Bhagavad Gita will be your friend and guide and it will help them to make important decisions in life.
There are 18 chapters in Bhagavad Gita and class will be focused on learning chapter 13 where we will be exploring in detail about different values like Humility, Adamabhitvam, Ahimsa, and Kshanti… along with text provided in class we would be referring some additional text, which teachers are still researching.
We started with Verse 8 in chapter 13 which talks about Humility, unpretentiousness, non-injury, Forgiveness, uprightness, service to the teacher, purity, steadfastness, self-control. We will discuss each of these values more in detail in coming classes.
Kids were asked to have conversation with parents and tell them which class they are in what are they going to learn this year. They were also asked to show them their books, which were given to them in class. Index cards were handed to all the students where on the front of the card they have to write what their parents know about Bhagavad Gita and on back of the card Parents have to write what they want their kids to learn this year, additionally index card have to be signed by a parent. Kids were asked to print weekly update and get signed by parent as well.
We ended the class with ending prayer.

Homework

Find out how many verses are there in Bhagavad Gita. Index Card Activity as mentioned above. Please bring few blank papers and pen/pencil in the class along with other Sanskar books.
