Executive Director Job Description
The Research Triangle Regional Partnership (RTRP) is an association of area economic development agencies dedicated to keeping the Research Triangle Region economically strong by collectively marketing the region’s competitive advantages and providing support to and facilitating collaboration among its member institutions and a wide range of partners.
We are currently seeking an Executive Director for our organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this role is responsible for supporting and managing all activities and affairs of the RTRP. Accountabilities include:
- Work with the Economic Developers Advisory Committee (EDAC) and the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic business plan to guide the organization.
- In coordination with the Chairman of the Board and the EDAC, identify and select those committees needed to execute the RTRP business plan.
- Articulate the brand of the Research Triangle Region and develop and execute an appropriate marketing plan that utilizes social media, the RTRP website and other sources.
- Collaborate with and support members by sharing best practices and providing data to guide their economic development efforts.
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization, ensuring that it meets the expectations of the RTRP Board and members.
- Actively staff and engage all RTRP committees and task forces.
- Foster effective team work between the Board, EDAC and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff.
- Work with the Chairman of the Board and the EDAC to prepare and manage a comprehensive budget. Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communication, making sure all members and leadership are familiar with the activities and actions of the RTRP; keep stakeholders informed of the work of the organization.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, using external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
- Maintain databases, committee lists, files and communicate with members
- Manage resource development; oversee the development of fund raising plans and write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization where appropriate.
- Coordinate and execute the annual State of the Region event.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chairman of the Board.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a unique combination of educational, professional and personal qualifications and experiences. This candidate’s character and portfolio of accomplishments will position her/him as a servant leader capable of guiding both volunteer leaders and professional developer members. S/he will be an energetic self-starter, someone who can foster collaboration, team building and trust among the member developers and partners. Required areas of education and professional experience include the following.
- College or university bachelor’s degree required.
- Marketing Expertise
- Member Organization Management
- Budgeting Experience and success
- Strong public speaking and written communications capabilities
- Decision maker with leadership and vision skills
- Experience in facilitating collaboration
- Understanding of Economic Development
- Well-organized
- Flexibility to travel on occasion
