From the Director: Well, April certainly proved to be an interesting month for the families and staff here at Lakeview! I want to thank all of you for making my transition here as director a very pleasant one. I am thrilled to be here with such a great staff and some of the cutest darn kids I have ever seen! I want each and every one of you – parents and staff- to know that my proverbial door is always open if you ever need to express desires or concerns regarding just about anything.Keep in mind that this has been a change for everyone and open, smooth communication is definitely key to keeping our precious children happy and engaged in learning on a daily basis! If you tend to miss me on drop off or pick up please feel free to drop me an email at any time. Also, upon check in/out please take a moment to look at the message displayed as I like to use this system as a form of communication with families. Enjoy the month of May...warm weather, birds & flowers! There is nothing like WNY in the spring! ☺

IMPORTANT DATES:

May 12th – Mother’s Day

May 15th – Patrick Bartley, 1 year!

May 19th – Miss Amanda’s birthday!

May 27th – Memorial Day, CLOSED

Nursery: Happy May! This month our theme is animal sounds. Our first week is ‘cows moo’: we will be painting cows using black and brown paint and white paper. The kids will be learning to ‘moo’ like a cow. Our second week is horses ‘neigh’ and galloping around the room like horses do. Our third week is kitties ‘meow’. We will be painting and making kitty sounds. Our fourth week is of course dogs ‘woof’ and we will be looking at dog books, painting dog pictures and moving like dogs too! With the weather getting warmer we will be trying to spend as much time outside as we can. So please remember to bring in a hat to put on your child’s head to block the sun. Also it would be a good idea to send in sunscreen and bug spray as well so we can keep our babies comfortable outdoors.

Toddler: It’s May and I am so looking forward to warmer temperatures. I think we have had enough cold to last years! This month in the toddler room will be action packed. The theme is storybook characters and we are going to try and act like those characters as much as possible. The stories we will cover are: Week 1- The Three Bears: we will learn about different sizes using objects from the story.

Week 2- Brown Bear, Brown Bear: we will concentrate on one color a day. Please read your child’s sheet for color of the day!

Week 3- Silly Sally: acting out Silly Sally songs, silly dances and silly games will be part of our day.

Week 4- The Little Engine That Could: we will try to do things all on our own. We will practice dressing ourselves, clearing our own plates and getting our cots ready for nap!

If you have any variations of these stories at home I would love to borrow them! May means a lot of outside time for the toddlers, please remember to send in sunscreen with their name labled on it and bug spray if you desire. (make sure you have signed a permission slip, see Miss Stacey if you need one) Here’s hoping for some amazing weather!

Preschool: Well, those April showers certainly brought about some beautiful flowers everywhere- although I was beginning to wonder if winter would ever end! This month we will be focusing on insects as we get outdoors more and more it just seems to make sense. We will discuss different types of insects and take a ‘bug field trip’ to hunt for insects and try our best to collect them! Our books for the month will be: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, The Very Grouchy Ladybug and The Very Lonely Firefly. These are all wonderful books which will tie nicely into our ‘buggy’ theme! We will make insect counting books integrating literacy and math, we will do a fun science experiment with ants; we will look around and find areas where ants tend to congregate and we will leave different types of food there, circling it in chalk then after an hour we will find out which food the ants liked best! This month we will also be discussing the importance of not talking to strangers, and the dangers we may be presented with as visit local parks, beaches and other visitor friendly places. We will be reading one of my very favorite books “Never Talk To Strangers” which is a cute book about animal strangers who try to talk to a child and how he responds to them. Keep an eye on our preschool board outside the classroom to find out what activities we did each day! Finally, as weather gets warmer we will be outside a lot more, so please make sure your child has play clothes on that can get dirty! Also, send in sunscreen and insect repellent and we will lable them and make sure to apply prior to outdoor activities. Here’s looking forward to a B-E-A-utiful May!
