ASSESSMENTS: Students shall use proper solfege syllables when singing their parts.
MONDAY
Activating Prior Knowledge: Review measures 9-24 of African Noel
Activities/Strategies: Have students do vocalises to ready their voice for singing. After Reviewing 9-24 of African Noel begin learning Measures 25-30 starting with rhythm and solfege.
Guided Practice/Independent: Have students sing in small groups to see what their tone is like and if there is anything such as a rhythm problem that needs to be fixed.
Homework: Review the Curwen Hand signs handout.
TUESDAY
Activating Prior Knowledge: Review Rhythm and solfege from measures 25-30
Activities/Strategies: Have students do vocalises to ready their voice for singing. Continuing with measures 25-30 sing the measures on solfege then words. Combine everything learned up until this point.
Guided Practice/Independent Practice: Practice solfege Curwen hand signs.
Homework: Continue to review Curwen hand signs.
WEDNESDAY
Activating Prior Knowledge: Solfege
Activities/Strategies: Beginning New Piece All On a Silent Night. Write in Solfege syllables for measures 5-28. Practice rhythms and solfege for these measures.
Guided Practice/Independent: In groups of three work on the first 8 measures. Have groups sing these measures.
Homework: Review Rhythm and Solfege
THURSDAY
Activating Prior Knowledge: Review African Noel and All on a Silent Night.
Activities/Strategies: Review for quiz on Friday. Review both songs.
Guided Practice/Independent: Have them do a small review sheet for quiz.
Homework: Review Solfege syllables, rhythm
FRIDAY
Activating Prior Knowledge: Review Solfege syllables, rhythm,
Activities/Strategies: Review Solfege syllables, and rhythm, have students do quiz on both.
Open Mic Friday. Students will be able to express their musical talent by selecting a song of their choice. This will help build confidence by singing in front of others.
Guided Practice/Independent: Students will do a quiz over both rhythm and solfege.
