CAVENDISH ROAD AND GORING STREET INTERSECTION UPGRADE

Project Newsletter – February 2017

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce the upgrade of Cavendish Road and Goring Street intersection at Coorparoo. The project will start late February 2017, weather permitting, and aims to improve pedestrian safety, and accessibility for residents and visitors to local businesses and public transport.

Cavendish Road is a suburban road linking the city’s south-east with inner-city suburbs and carries approximately 13,000 vehicles per day. There is currently a non-signalised safety zone (identified by signage) with a refuge island to facilitate pedestrian crossing on Cavendish Road between Marriott and Goring streets. In response to pedestrian safety concerns, Council is planning to signalise the intersection with Goring Street which will include pedestrian crossing facilities.

Works will generally be undertaken at night between 7pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday. However, some day works will be required. The majority of works will be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are lowest to ensure the safety of motorists and workers and to minimise traffic disruptions. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time. Due to workplace health and safety requirements reversing beepers cannot be switched off. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work and, where possible, particularly noisy works such as jack hammering will be completed by 11pm.

Properties in close proximity to the project site may experience construction noise, increased lighting, low levels of vibration and dust. The speed limit through the construction site will be reduced to 40km/h for the duration of works and traffic controllers will be onsite to assist road users through the worksite where required.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2017, weather permitting.

Works will involve:

• installing traffic signals at the intersection of Cavendish Road and Goring Street, which include signalised pedestrian crossing facilities

• reconfiguring and realigning kerb ramps to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety

• relocating the outbound bus stop on Cavendish Road to the eastern side of the Goring Street intersection to improve intersection efficiency

• relocating the taxi zone further down Goring Street to facilitate left and right turning lanes out of Goring Street

• relocating and formalising car parking to align with the relocation of the bus stop and taxi zone, resulting in a loss of five spaces

• altering access to Marriott Street to be left-in and left-out only

• road resurfacing and new line marking to align to upgraded intersection configuration.
