An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Social Responsibility Manager to join our Policy and Markets directorate.

We are looking for a Social Responsibility expert who can lead and develop this comprehensive social responsibility programme right across the business, delivering and developing initiatives that enhance the services we deliver for our customers, particularly vulnerable customers. You will need experience in developing social programmes which add value to customers and organisations and will be confident in engaging internal and external stakeholders to achieve this.

Key Responsibilities

The Social Responsibility Manager is accountable for

  • Driving a comprehensive social responsibility programme right across the companythat supports our corporate social responsibility strategy
  • Working with the business, stakeholders, regulators and other key bodies to understand industry best practice and horizon scan for emerging and future social issues. Ensuring that the Social and CV strategy and programmes are current and fit for purpose for our customers and wider stakeholders
  • Influencing changes in policy to inform what the existing and future social offers should be for DNOs, including shaping the Northern Powergrid offer for ED2
  • Defining and enhancingthe social offer for our vulnerable customers and ensuring that it is built in to all relevant business processes and service lines.
  • Defining a structured volunteering programme into the business which supports both our social objectives and development of our staff.
  • Leading a comprehensive annual consultation programme to routinely engage with stakeholders (both internal and external) which demonstrably develops and improves our social programme.
  • Driving the performance of the team, holding staff to account to meet targets by providing clarity and direction; ensuring that individuals are aware of their responsibilities and meet expectations
  • Ensuring there is a clear and effective communication plan to support the social responsibility that appropriately raises its profile and people’s understanding both within the company and externally

Key Competencies

  • Management of social responsibility advisorand two education officers
  • Key lead on driving outcomes based benefits to the expenditure for the Stakeholder Engagement & Consumer Vulnerability budget
  • Close liaison with stakeholder management, customer experience and consumer vulnerability to ensure all team deliverables are met, they complement and that there is consistency of service
  • Performance reporting against standards and targets.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Have at least two years’ experience and good track record of managing people, performance, campaign design and communications
  • Strong leadership skills, including line management experience, with the ability to manage resourcing to optimise team performance
  • Excellent collaboration and team working skills
  • Experience of working in a policy environment and ability to influence individuals and policy
  • Be able to demonstrate the delivery of improvement of business performance through effective management of business processes, impacts and priorities
  • Good IT skills including use of Microsoft applications specially Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
  • Good level of professional qualifications, university education in an appropriate degree (English, business studies, public relations, marketing and change management) or commensurate work experience.
