NORTHERN AREAS SUBURB, PINEHURST
Local shopping centre, major road extension under way
2013
Infrastructure and buildings to the value of R190 million are under construction at Pinehurst, the Garden Cities northern areas flagship suburb, where, among the new projects are a shopping centre with a trading area of 6 970 m2 and a major arterial road extension.
Letting is well advanced for the shopping centre, where underground civil engineering works have started in preparation for construction startingthis month. The centre will cater for traders in shops varying in size from 25m2 to 3112m2. Pick ’n Pay has been signed as the anchor tenant, together with 34 more traders that have already committed to space.
‘The new projects are in line with facilities appropriate to the stage we have reached so far at Pinehurst and are part of the Garden Cities’ undertaking to provide the broadest possible infrastructure for the communities we develop,’ says the company’s Operations Manager, Renier Smith.
As part of the comprehensive range of accommodation provided in Garden Cities’ suburbs, services are being provided for a retirement village of 143 houses. To be called Rochefort, it will be on the market from 2014.
Its position just north of the new Pinehurst retail centre will make it ideal for active older people who enjoy their independence but appreciate convenience and a community lifestyle.
The popular Stor-Age facility which offers space to store domestic and business items is being extended in its position on Okavango Road and will eventually have a gross lettable area (GLA) of 9 000m2 over three floors and final GLA of 12000m2.
As part of the infrastructure of the suburb, Brackenfell Boulevard, the main arterial road serving Pinehurst is to be extended from its current terminal position at the intersection with New Langeberg Road, right through to Wildebees Road. This will afford residents easy access to the main Wellington Road through Durbanville.
The second phase of the existing Meridian School that opened its doors in Pinehurst at the start of this year, is also planned, and services will be complete by May 20 on Pinehurst Phase IV that will consist of 245 single residential houses and Rochefort Retirement Village, consisting of 143.
