JOB TITLE:Counsellor– (Part Time 15hours)

RESPONDING TO:Counselling Team Leader

REPORTING TO:Head of Community Services

WORK BASE:Hope House

General Description of Post

To assist in providing a person centred counselling service to children and families as directed by the Referrals Panel or Care Management Team.

The post holder will be expected to provide a service either within the client’s home or at the hospice, therefore extensive travel throughout the catchment area will be necessary.

The post holder must maintain BACP Registration, Membership/Accreditation (or equivalent) and abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for Counselling Professionals. Any breach of the above will constitute a disciplinary offence.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To provide counselling/bereavement counselling to children and family members who are receiving support from Hope HouseChildren’s Hospices.
  1. To provide bereavement counselling to families in the community as referred to the Referrals Panel by local LHBs, NHS Trusts, Social Services, other relevant agencies or direct from families.
  1. To work within the guidelines of the BACP re confidentiality and ethics.
  1. To make assessments on appropriate counselling provision, reviews and possible referral for other support if required.
  1. To work with the Counselling and Social Work Teams to provide bereavement support in and from the hospice.
  1. To work with the Counselling andSocial Work Teams in providing group work or individual support to children and parents, both pre and post bereavement as required.
  1. To take part in relevant training activities as requested by the Head of Community Services. To deliver training when appropriate to Hope House Children’s Hospices staff or outside organisations/bodies as directed by the Head of Community Services..
  2. To receive appropriate and adequate supervision to support your practice.
  3. To produce relevant statistics and records as required by the Head of Community Services and any relevant bodies.
  4. To ensure that all record keeping is in accordance with the organisations Health Records and Information Management Policy.
  5. To contribute to effective communication within the organisation.
  6. To ensure that you are familiar with all Policies and Procedures pertinent to your area of work and that you act accordingly.
  7. To ensure that your Terms and Conditions of Employment are complied with.
  8. To promote the philosophy of HopeHouse Children’s Hospices beyond the establishment.

Education /
  • Diploma in Counselling and registered member of the BACP or similar.
  • Accreditation with BACP or working towards this.
