BREAKING A SOCIAL NORM
DIRECTIONS: This assignment is worth 25 points.
Choose a social norm – folkway or more (but not a law) – and then BREAK IT!!! You must have an audience or else no one will know that you broke a norm.
For example, call your teachers or your parents by their first names instead of their titles (you cannot use this one). You would not want to use one that would get you into major trouble with authority figures!!
Then write a 1-page paper about your experience. This paper can be handwritten (1 page back and front) but it must be NEAT!! If you type the paper, please use 12 pt. font and double space it.
Here is what you should include in your write-up:
· Describe what you did, identify the type of norm you broke, and how you went about breaking it (10 points)
· How did you feel before, during, and after the experience? (5 points)
· What type of reaction did you get from those around you? (5 points)
Be prepared to share your experience with the class. This is worth 5 points.
