Job Description – Shift Caretaker

Hours of Work: / ·  Full Time Shift Rota
·  Shift1: Mon to Fri – 05.00 to 13.00
·  Shift 2: Mon to Fri – 14.00 to 22.00
·  Occasional weekend cover for lettings on rota (overtime)
·  Hours of work may be adjusted with sufficient notice as operational needs change
·  Evening shifts may be requested to be shortened to 20.00 if there are no lettings requiring the additional hours, with prior notice and only at the discretion of the Site Manager. The hours to be made up within the same week or a loss of pay to be attached, again in discussion with and at the discretion of the Site Manager (Weekly time sheets for adjusted evening shifts, authorised by the Site Manager, to be submitted to HR)
·  During school holidays, if no lettings are in place, to work full time day shifts. This will be planned in advance at the sole dicretion of the Site Manager
·  Holidays to be taken during term time with due regard to maintaining full cover and with prior authorisation from the Site Manager
Purpose: / To ensure, at all times, the cleanliness, safety and security of the school buildings and site during term time and school holidays
Dimensions: / ·  Report to the Site Manager
·  Assist the Site Manager in the full range of caretaking duties anywhere in the school as required by operational needs
·  To work within a two week alternating shift pattern and from time to time, cover for weekend lettings
·  To comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations, Lone Working and other school policies
Principal Accountabilities: / ·  Use building management, access control and CCTV computers
·  Carry out DIY tasks as directed
·  Identify areas in need of maintenance or that have been damaged, report and rectify
·  Assist with moving heavy items around the school site/buildings
·  Deliver goods inward around the school/site as required
·  When working at height or with heavy objects have due regard for the health and safety of self and others
·  In the Site Manager’s absence, undertake any necessary emergency work (need/hour of day permitting). Refer to Lone Working Policy
·  Undertake additional cleaning/duties as directed by the Business Manager or Site Manager
·  Undertake daily paperwork
·  Undertake emergency repairs as necessary (need/hour of day permitting) Refer to Lone Working Policy
·  Provide access to areas for contractors
·  Remove any graffiti and chewing gum
·  Monitor and empty rubbish bins
·  Remove litter which has accrued or accrues during the school day
·  Monitor toilets particularly during the school day
·  Lay out the hall or classrooms for examinations, concerts, meetings
·  Treat paths and steps when ice or snow demands
·  Maintain security of the premises. Lock or unlock the premises in accordance with the procedure as required by the fire safety rules. Refer to Fire Regulations & Lone Working Policy
·  Lock/unlock the cycle shed gates
·  Give Cleaners access to classrooms
·  Check the identification of people moving around the premises
·  Assist with energy management by closing windows, shutting doors and turning off lights
·  Clean/sanitise area after sickness, accident or other
·  Undertake other duties that may be required from time to time
·  Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations, Lone Working and other school policies
