Spectrum Orchestra Winter Concert
Spectrum Orchestra is a community, amateur orchestra (pay to play) that is in its 2nd season. We rehearse mostly at Seaholm, occasionally at Derby, and have 3 performances/year, all at Seaholm. 3 people with BCS ties are in the orchestra: Larissa M. (my daughter, 8th grade, Violin), Mrs. Gillespie-Braisted (BCS Orchestra Director, String Bass), and me (Larissa's mom, BCS Honors Orchestra volunteer, Violin). In addition, the Orchestra includes at least one other person with BPS ties: theChair of Seaholm's Science Dept. (Laura Wichers, Cello), as well as her daughter (cello).(One of the violists from Spectrum Orchestra has also beenkind enough to volunteerthis year with the BCS Honors Orchestra, though she does not have direct ties to BPS.)Details for the concert are as follows:
Date:Friday, March 14, 2014
Time: 7:30 pm
Tickets:$ 10 (adult), $ 7 (seniors), $ 5 (students). Available either at the door, or from me orfrom Mrs. Gillespie-Braisted.

Copland's Lincoln Portrait
Tchaikovsky's Symphony #2 in C minor "Little Russian"
Mrs. Gillespie has given BPS Orchestra students "extra credit" for concert attendance, if they bring a program in from the concert they attended, signed by a parent. This would be a great, inexpensive opportunity for "extra credit" for the BPS orchestra students.
Thenarrator for Lincoln Portrait will be Oliver Ragsdale. Currently, he's the President of the Arts League of Michigan and is developing the Carr Center, a performing arts/visual arts center in Harmonie Park in downtown Detroit. He has worked extensively to develop and promote arts organizations throughout Michigan, the Midwest, and worldwide. He is also an accomplished percussionist with an extensive professional background as a performer with such organizations as the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestras, West Shore Symphony Orchestra, Virginia and Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestras and numerous bands, musicals, orchestras, touring companies, and road shows.
