2017 Team Indiana Results

Elementary State Results 2017

A 20 team event with a newly added large and small division. Congratulations to Center Grove for winning the large division and to Jet Wrestling Club for winning the small division of the ISWA Elementary Duals State Championship.

Middle School State Results 2017

The Middle School State Championship was hosted by the IHSWCA and New Castle High School. Warren Wrestling Academy won the team competition along with academy division Maurer Coughlin. This event established ISWA’s Team Indiana National Middle School Duals Teams. Both teams had a good showing at the USAW Heartland Duals in Council Bluffs IA. The USAW Heartland Duals in hosted in Council Bluffs, IA. This event is the largest and best Elementary Dual tournament in the USA (36 national teams representing all corners of the United States). Indiana Gold & Blue teams both had a strong finish with the Indiana Gold finishing 7th (Diamond bracket) and Elementary Blue finishing 17th (winning their gold bracket).

Schoolboy Duals Team Indiana 2017:

Team Indiana Freestyle Blue

The Freestyle “Blue” team finished with a record of 3-2. Team Indiana started the day with a first round loss to Illinois (Indiana 17 – Illinois 61) and a second round loss New York (Indiana 39 – New York 40) before receiving a bye. Team Indiana then picked up 3 straight wins to finish out the tournament. They had wins against Michigan Red (Indiana 48 – Michigan Red 9), Georgia Red (Indiana 48 – Georgia Red 24), and North Carolina (Indiana 52 – North Carolina 8).

The wrestles all performed very well. The outstanding wrestlers were: Bryce Lowery (5-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, Kamariyon Nelson (5-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, Tyler Fuqua (4-0), Toby Billerman (4-1), Elijah Anthony (4-1), Jeivan Ross (4-1), Matthew Koontz (4-1), Seth Willems (4-1), Leighton Jones (4-1). Other Team Indiana wrestlers were: Hayden Watson (3-2), JuJuan Anderson (2-2), Luke Goodwin (1-4), and Drake Buchanan (0-2).

The Team Indiana Blue freestyle coaches did an excellent job. Thank you coaches Thomas Johnson and Chad Ulmer. The Assistant Team Leader was Michael Duckworth and the Team Leader was Steven Livingston.

Team Indiana Freestyle Gold

The Freestyle “Gold” team finished with a record of 6-2. During the initial pool matches Team Indiana scored victories against Idaho (Indiana 53 – Idaho 23) and Maryland Gold (Indiana 53 – Maryland Gold 24) and losses against Colorado Red (Indiana 33 – Colorado Red 43) and Ohio (Indiana 32 – Ohio 44). The team then enteredthe Red/Blue Pool where they were able to finish the tournament with four straight victories against South Dakota (Indiana 50 – South Dakota 23), Florida (Indiana 55 – Florida 20), Oklahoma Blue (Indiana 53 – Oklahoma Blue 20), and Michigan Blue (Indiana 38 – Michigan Blue 36).

Jesse Mendez and Matthew Munoz both earned All Duals honors in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The outstanding wrestlers were: Jesse Mendez (8-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, Evan Bates (8-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, Matthew Munoz (8-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, David Pearson (7-1), Kyson Montgomery (6-2), Parker Frost (6-2), Van Skinner (5-2),Keaton Morton (5-3), Andrew Wilson (5-3), Cody Goodwin (5-3), and Kade Law (5-3). Other Team Indiana wrestlers were: Richie Pena (4-4), Coy Hammock (3-5), Brody Baumann (3-5), Cole Solomey (2-6), and Jacob Skinner (0-3).

The Team Indiana Gold Freestyle coaches did an excellent job. Thank you coaches Tyson Skinner and Brandon Music. The Assistant Team Leader was Michael Duckworth and the Team Leader was Steven Livingston.

Team Indiana Greco-Roman Blue

The Greco-Roman “Blue” team finished with a record of 4-5. Team Indiana was 3-2 in pool competition. Team Indiana picked up wins against Kansas Silver (Indiana 38 – Kansas Silver 13), Florida (Indiana 36 – Florida 22), South Dakota (Indiana 31 – South Dakota 30); while losing to Michigan Blue (Indiana 28 – Michigan Blue 41) and New Jersey (Indiana 55 – New Jersey 23). Indiana then entered the Red/Blue pool where they lost three matches in a row Georgia Red (Indiana 34 – Georgia Red 37), Idaho (Indiana 28 – Idaho 42), Tennessee (Indiana 33 – Tennessee 39), before they were able to finish the tournament out with a victory over North Carolina (Indiana 47 – North Carolina 14).

The outstanding wrestlers were: Jeivan Ross (9-0) ALL DUALS TEAM MEMBER, Tyler Fuqua (2-0), David Pearson (8-1), Drake Buchanan (6-1), Kamariyon Nelson (7-2), Julius Gerencser (6-3), Seth Willems (6-3), and Cody Goodwin (5-3). Other Team Indiana wrestlers were: Nathan Smith (5-4), Leighton Jones (5-4), Reece Courtney (3-6), and Luke Goodwin (3-6).

The Team Indiana Blue Greco-Roman coaches did an excellent job. Thank you coaches Tyson Skinner and Brandon Music. The Assistant Team Leader was Michael Duckworth and the Team Leader was Steven Livingston.

Team Indiana Greco-Roman Gold

The Greco-Roman “Gold” team finished with a record of 4-4.During the initial pool matches Team Indiana scored victories against Kansas Gold (Indiana 37 – Kansas Gold 36) and Tennessee (Indiana 47 – Tennessee 30) while suffering defeats against Missouri (Indiana 32 – Missouri 42) and Kansas Gold (Indiana 40 – Kansas Gold 41). Team Indiana then entered the Bronze/Copper pool where they lost two duals in a row against Colorado Red (Indiana 23 – Colorado Red 53) and New Jersey (Indiana 33 – New Jersey 44). Then things turned around for the Hoosier grapplers as they ended the tournament with two consecutive victories over Virginia (Indiana 42 – Virginia 30) and Michigan Blue (Indiana 42 – Michigan Blue 36).

Team Indiana Cadet/Junior Duals 2017

Cadet National Duals 2017: York, PA location. Highlighting the Duals team were Alex Mosconi, who led the team with an impressive 17-0 record for the week. Gabe Smith (14-1) and Terrell Leavell (12-1), also had a great tournament and earned All-Tournament honors. Other members of Team Indiana Included Karson Everett (88), Suhas Chundi (100), Jake Shafer (100), Harrison Hadley (106), Antonio Jefferson (106), Gabe Smith (113), Reece Luhmann (120), Jace Longere (126), Scott Fittz (132), Terrell Leavell (132), Alex Mosconi (138), Brock Ellis (145), Clayton Fielden (160), Clayton Todd (170), Andrew Irick (195), Jack Biddle (220), and Taylor Webster (HWT).

The Greco Team finished 7th in pool play to start the tournament. The team then won 5 straight duals to win the green/yellow pool in Greco. finished 21st in the tournament. Alex Mosconi (8-0), Gabe Smith (7-1), Terrell Leavell, Clayton Fielden (8-0), and Andrew Irisk (8-0) were all named to the All-Greco Team.

The Freestyle Team finished 2-3 and finished 6th in pool play to start the tournament. This put them in the Red/Blue pool. In the Red/Blue pool the team ended up competeing for 7th place. Indiana beat Team Maryland to earn 7th place in the pool. Alex Mosconi finished the Freestyle tournament undefeated. Gabe Smith and Terrell Leavell both ended with only 1 loss in Freestyle. Team Indiana finished the tournament with a combined 9-8 record, going 6-2 in Greco and 3-6 in Freestyle.

Junior National Duals 2017: Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 23-29th.

This year Indiana took two teams, Indiana Gold and Indiana Blue, for the 3rd year in a row to compete at this premier event and both teams were able to secure some solid victories. Indiana’s top team was the 5-3 Gold Team and finished 16th in Freestyle out of 36 teams. Our Indiana Greco-Roman team finished 16th out of 30 teams, which is one of the best finishes in recent history, primarily due to the alternates who wrestled Greco-Roman.

The Indiana Junior National Team was led this year with 11 seeding point from USAW National Champion Andrew Davison, USAW All-American Lucas Davison, UWW All-American Eli Pokorney, USAW All-American Kyle Cornwell and UWW All-American Kasper McIntosh. Additional team members included Danny Tolin, Isaiah Pichardo, Josh Smith- Goheen, Jacob Moran, Seth Horty, Gabe Smith, Reece Luhmann, Elijah Bauer, Jacob Fiew, Colin Poynter, Alex Streuder, Josh Stephenson, Jack Tolin, Adam Jerde, Tristan Sellmer, Blake Bushey, Caleb Gibson, Kasper Mcintosh, Sam Hauke, Eli Stock, Tanner Webster, Bodey Holbrook, Tremor Bynum, Noah Cressell and Trevor Snipes.

Fargo Nationals 2017:

Greco Cadets: We had a total of 36 wrestlers compete in Freestyle and Greco. The Cadet Greco Team sent 24 wrestlers into competition with three of them earning All American status, including a National Champion. Eli Pokorney was the highlight of our Greco Team winning a National Title at HWT, Silas Allred placed 4th at 182 lbs., and Jacob Atkins placed 8th at 170 lbs. Other notable performances were Colton Drousais who pulled of 5 wins at 106 lbs., and Blake Boarman at 113 lbs, Alex Mosconi at 132 lbs., and Clayton Fielden at 160 lbs., all won 4 matches each. The team finished 14th out of 43 states.

Freestyle Cadets: We started off with 36 wrestlers competing in Freestyle this year, and we came away 4 All Americans and a 15th place finish out of 45 States. Brayden Lowery placed 8th at 100lbs., Alex Mosconi placed 4th at 132 lbs., Clayton Fielden placed 4th at 160 lbs., and Eli Pokorney placed 3rd at HWT. Other notable performances were Alec Freeman at 94 lbs. and Cooper Noehre at 145 lbs., both coming up just short of AA status with 5 wins a piece. Team IN also had two Cadet girls compete in Freestyle. Both Cadet girls earned All-American status. Ciera Broukal finished 6th at 106 lbs and Jasmine Hale finished 7th at 164 lbs.

2017 UWW Cadet Nationals Akron, OH/Irving, TX

The 2017 UWW Cadet Nationals was held in Akron, OH. Indiana had one wrestler earn All-American status at the UWW Cadet Greco Nationals. Blake Boarman came away with 4 wins earning him 6th place in Greco at 50 KG.

Three Indiana wrestlers earned All-American status at the UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals. Kasper McIntosh finished the tournament 5-2 and earned 5th place at 63 KG. Lucas Davison earned 4th place at 85 KG with a record of 5-2. Eli Pokorney finished with a record of 3-1 to earn 3rd place at 125 KG. These three wrestlers competed very well in one of the toughest tournaments in the country.

The 2017 Women’s UWW Cadet Nationals takes place in Irving, TX. One female athlete placed at Body Bar. Alara Boyd went 4-0 in the championship bracket. She then finished the tournament with two tech falls in the best of 3 finals to become the 65 KG UWW Cadet Women’s National Champion. Alara will compete on the U.S. team at the UWW Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece in September 2017.
