Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Purpose:
To provide estimating, cost management and contract management support in the delivery of multidisciplinary projects within Nexus.

Remuneration: Salary Band 5

1. / Principle areas of responsibility
1.1 / Assisting Project Managers in providing financial forecasts and estimates.
1.2 / Assist the Project Managers in preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
1.3 / Support to Project Managers in evaluating gross certified / invoice data and assessing value of work done at period end and in determining final accounts.
1.4 / To establish and maintain estimating databases and metrics to support project and programme planning and forecasting.
1.5 / Assist Project Managers in identifying risk mitigation measures.
1.6 / Update cost management and programme management systems.
1.7 / To facilitate project health checks, audits and post project reviews and prepare and collate reports on their outcomes.
1.8 / Management of the Early Warnings & Compensation Events registers.
1.9 / Assist the Project Managers and the Commercial Manager in agreeing compensation events and claims and provision of reporting – primarily under NEC3.
2.0 / Preparing and collating period end reporting.

2. Dimensions

2.1 / Communications
2.1.1 / The Quantity Surveyor will work with a number of multidisciplinary Project Managers across Nexus to provide support in estimating, cost management and contract administration. The role reports to the Senior Quantity Surveyor.
2.1.2 / This role will work closely with Capital Finance, the Programme Controls Manager and PMO Analysts in ensuring the financial information within the Programme Management systems is reliable and accurate
2.2 / Decision Making & Problem Solving
2.2.1 / The Quantity Surveyor will support Project Managers in administering NEC3 and other forms of contracts and will be able to give advice on responses to early warnings and compensation events.
2.2.2 / The Quantity Survey will be required to produce cost estimates at all stages of Project development – from initial scoping to pre-tender..
2.2.3 / The Quantity Surveyor will review and make recommendation to improve Project Management and Cost Management Processes and tools and assist in implementing changes.
2.3 / Initiative & Independence
2.3.1 / The Quantity Surveyor will be expected to question and challenge Contractors in the evaluation of compensation events and in valuing work and certifying payments.
2.4 / Resources
2.4.3 / The Quantity Surveyor will typically support 10-15 individual projects of varying complexity and at different stages in the project lifecycle. The overall Nexus Programme is composed of circa 100 live projects with an annual expenditure in the region of £40million.
2.5 / People
2.5.1 / The role has no direct reports; however the Quantity Surveyor will provide both support and challenge to Project Managers in the delivery of their projects.
