Family and Consumer Sciences falls under Kentucky’s Career Cluster, Human Services. Human Services empowers individuals and families across the life span to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Our unique focus is on families, work and their interrelationships. This 9-week course introduces pre-adolescents to Family and Consumer Sciences through short units of instruction. Career awareness is part of each unit. Leadership development will be provided through the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Class Procedures

Entering Class

·  Be on time and prepared

·  Be in your assigned seat BEFORE the bell rings with supplies ready to go!

·  Copy the Learning Target / Upcoming Events into your Agenda

·  Follow Expectations

During Class

·  0-voice level when I raise my hand

·  Raise your hand to speak or to get out of your seat

·  Cooperate with others at your table team

End of Class

·  Clean your table area (no trash on table or floor)

·  Wait quietly to be dismissed by Mrs. Marksberry

·  Push your chair under the table when you leave

Resources and Supplies Needed for Success

·  Notebook paper, Pencil/Pen, Agenda for recording Daily Learning Targets, Lab Supply Fee

·  Students will be supplied with a folder to keep in the classroom

Assessment

Quizzes, Tests, Folder Checks, Cooking Labs, Individual and Group Projects, Interactive Notebook, and Self-Evaluation

Family and Consumer Sciences Fees

Students in Family and Consumer Sciences are required to pay a Lab Fee for materials, supplies and consumables and also for equipment that will damage or wear down over time.

Lab fees are $5 per person. Students who are qualified for reduced lunch will pay a reduced price of $2.50.

I need student’s fees before ______. Checks will need to be made to EJMS or you may send cash.

All students who are scheduled to have FCS class at some point in the school year are automatically a member of Family Career and Community Leaders of America. (FCCLA)
