Kim Quinn-Haver for WLEA Secretary
I have been a teacher in the district for approximately 20 years. I have taught third through eighth grade – with 16 years at Oakley Park Elementary and three and a half at Clifford Smart Middle School where I am both a core and encore teacher teaching reading and English. My work with the WLEA began when I was a second year teacher. I became a building rep. and shortly thereafter I was asked by Nancy Van Leuwen and Bill Bell, the president and former president, if I would sit on the bargaining team. I negotiated my first contract in my third year of teaching. I have negotiated every subsequent contract, including this last. In my third year of teaching, I was elected as the WLEA Vice President working with Nancy and then later Bill Bell when he again became president. I started the WLEA New Teacher Club many years ago, and after a break, have been back chairing the club since Chriss Golden took over as President. I was appointed WLEA Secretary when the position became vacant four years ago, and then was elected as the Secretary for this last three year term. I am also a very active school volunteer. I am currently the Vice President of Operations for the Keith Elementary PTA, and I have held the position of President and Secretary as well. I am also the current Secretary of the Smart PTSA, as well as the teacher representative and legislative chair. I have sat on the District Strategic Planning Committee/District NCA Leadership Team for approximately ten years. I have served as an NCA co-chair and committee chair in addition to sitting on numerous district committees over the years. I hope to continue in my role as WLEA Secretary because I believe strongly in the power of our union. With two elementary aged children of my own attending Walled Lake Schools I am passionately dedicated to this district. I believe that our union helps to make this district an outstanding educational community. I feel that I bring a positive energy to our work with other district leaders, and I believe I am a strategic thinker. I feel that my experience and knowledge, along with my willingness to work hard and learn more each day, make me a strong union leader. I hope that I will have your support in the upcoming WLEA election. Thanks!
