Ancient Talk Show Project

Directions: For this project, we will show what we have learned about the importance and development of farming techniques, cities, and culture in chapter two. Each section (North/South) will be creating their own television talk show, much like The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel, etc.

Your group is responsible for preparing a script for your section of the show (host, guest, or performer). You may use any actions, props, or costumes that you find helpful. Not everyone has to perform in the show, but everyone in the group must help write and prepare for your group’s performance. You can be as creative as you’d like, but you should treat this as a professional television show which would inform and entertain ancient audiences (if they had electricity and TV).

Grading: You will receive a group project grade using the rubric on the back. You will also receive a participation grade given to you individually by your group members.

Requirements:

  1. Typed or handwritten script **Be sure to have enough copies of the script for the day of the performance.
  1. The script should not just state things that happened in history. It should incorporate the information we’ve learned into an entertaining story, social concerns or commentary, political interests, etc. The goal is to show the importance of these early developments in a useful context while entertaining your audience.
  1. Must refer to at least three of the following topics we’ve learned about:

- living in permanent settlements vs. nomad/hunter-gatherer

- modifying environment vs. adapting to environment

- how they've progressed from early humans

- growing from farming settlements to cities and civilizations

- ideal locations for cities

- farming tools and techniques

- domesticating plants and/or animals

- clothing, jewelry, tools

- architecture

- surplus (food or goods)

- spiritual or religious beliefs/practices

- leadership

- government

- taxation

- social classes

- division of labor

- trade
