Step 1—Desired ResultsStandard Outcomes for Learning (ACTFL Standard 1.1)—Answer’s the question, what should students know, understand, and be able to do as a result of the lesson?
- The students will be able to say the words of nine body parts in Chinese.
- They will be able to use the sentence pattern “This is….”to talk about the
- Students will be able to use simple adjectives 长,短,大,小to describe their body parts.

Performance task—What will students do to show what they have learned?
- The students will be able to be fully engaged in various tasks to demonstrate their understanding of these words.
- They will be able to describe their body parts in Chinese.

Step 3—Learning Plan
Learning activities - Answer’s the question, how do I teach it?
- Lead in
- Presentation
If the teacher points to a body part but reads a different word, they should keep silent. The one who reads a wrong word gets a minus point.
- Consolidation practice.
This game can take place between two students.
Activity 2: Students will be divided into 3 teams and each team will choose one player to be blindfolded and draw the body part words according to what the teacher says. The one who follows the teacher’s word order and draws the best one is the winner.
- Using sentence pattern “ This is …” to introduce their body parts.
When the music is off, the one who is holding the doll must stand up and introduce at least six of his/her body parts using the sentence pattern “ This is…”. If they make it, they are winners. Otherwise they get a punishment points. Any student who gets more than two minus points will have to jump the rope twenty times.
V. Dialogue Practice
Learn four adjectives 长,短,大,小and practice asking and answering each other about how a person looks like.
VI .If time permits, draw a monster with various numbers of body parts.

What did I learn? How will I improve my lesson next time?
While the majority of the students enjoyed learning body parts through TPR. A few of them felt too shy to participate in the activities involved moving around. Students find the song quite helpful for memorizing the words. The 2 new students who just joined us didn’t think the class was challenging, which was really good. I may spend less time on practicing the sentence pattern “This is…” as the students mastered it very quickly.
