Donna I.S.D. Literacy and Arts Parade
PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS
The D.I.S.D. Showcase Parade & Festival Committee provides the following list of rules and regulations for the D.I.S.D. Showcase Parade on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017.
** Each group entry must designate a Parade Leader to represent their group. The
Parade Leader will serve as the contact person before and during the parade.
** For the safety of all parade participants and spectators, All trailers entered in
the parade must meet ALL legal towing state regulations (hitch, chains,
lighting, etc.).
** All parade entries must stay in the center of the street during the parade.
1. ALL Parade formations for ALL group entries will line up facing
north on Main Street (beginning on the intersection of Business 83,
going south on Main St.to Silver St.).
2. All Parade Vehicles must go through South Avenue and enter Main
Street going north. (Only parade vehicles will be allowed on Main
Street between South Avenue and Business 83). Parade vehicles and all parade participants should arrive between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
3. The parade will leave the formation area at 9:00 a.m. The parade
will go east on Business 83, then North on Salinas Boulevard and East
on Wood Avenue. Any group not ready to proceed with the parade
will be moved to the end of the parade line.
4. Parade must be kept moving forward at all times. All GOLF CARTS
entered with a school must stay with their campus float/group.
5. Throwing of candy, balloons, literature, or any promotional items is
STRICLY PROHIBITED along the parade route. (ONLY walking
participants in each float will be permitted to give
candy to spectators).
** Keep in mind that children may be excited with the parade entries
and costumes and will be anticipating candy **

6. No off-loading of float riders will be permitted anywhere along the
parade route.
7. For the safety of parade participants, all entries must stay in the path
of the parade route. Participants who do not adhere to this request
will be removed from the parade. (All parade entries must stay in the
center of the street at all times).
8. For the safety of all participants and spectators, NO Animals will
be allowed to participate in the parade.
9. For the safety of all participants and spectators, no 18 wheelers will
be allowed.
10. For the enjoyment of participants and spectators, no political entries
will be allowed. Parade floats or vehicles are not allowed to display
political signs or bumper stickers. Floats displaying political signs or
bumper stickers will NOT be allowed to participate.
11. For the safety of parade participants, students/participants under the
age of 7 should NOT participate as “walkers” in the parade. All
children under the age of 7 must ride on vehicle or float.
12. All floats must have at least 2 spotters (1 on each side) along the parade route. (These spotters/walkers will be the designated people to give out candy to spectators).
13. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the parade. Any entry
found with any alcoholic beverage will be removed from the parade
immediately.
14. Participants must follow instructions from Police Officers/Security guards/Parade Staff on duty.
15. Parade Leader is responsible for all vehicles affiliated with their
entry and is responsible for any person marching with their entry.
16. All parade floats will proceed through the parade line past the east entrance of the Simon Sauceda Auditorium Parking lot, then turn right into the guard shack entrance and unload students at the library sidewalk. Drivers MUST FOLLOW the DIRECTIONS of the Officers on duty. After unloading, all vehicles will exit around the south side and east side of the high school, and turn right to Victoria Rd. All vehicles towing a float must be removed from the festival area after the students are unloaded from the float.
