International Visitors Program Intern

For nearly 90 years the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA) has served as the resource for increasing understanding of international affairs and creating globally minded citizens in Northeast Ohio.

CCWA inspires engagement in international affairs through a vibrant lecture series, educational outreach to schools and universities, opportunities to engage in citizen diplomacy and forums for public dialogue.

CCWA has a long and successful tradition of providing meaningful and engaging intern experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. Often students are able to receive course credit for their CCWA internship.

This internship will specifically focus on the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP). The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional

exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience the United States firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their

American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.

Location: 812 Huron Road East, Cleveland, Ohio 44115. Please note that CCWA’s office is located downtown, and interns must absorb the cost of public parking or use of public transit.

Commitment Period:

- Fall internship, Sept.-Dec., preferably 15-20 hours per week.

Category: Unpaid internship.

Responsibilities: The IVP intern will:

·  Research local resources (community groups, government agencies, business and political leaders, etc.) and current local issues for programs or proposals.

·  Assist with arranging professional appointments for visitors and creating full itinerary programs.

·  Assist with pre, during, and post program correspondence with resources.

·  Attend meetings with international visitors when needed.

·  Assist with maintenance of resource materials and databases.

·  Assist with marketing programs to the local community.

·  Assist with content updates to Website.

·  Assist with database management.

·  Support Council-wide marketing efforts.

·  Utilize HootSuite to schedule social media posts.

Qualifications:

·  Be in the process of earning a Bachelor’s or advanced degree;

·  Proficient in social media;

·  Excellent internet research skills;

·  Previous event planning skills are a plus;

·  Possess outstanding time management and organizational skills;

·  Show a high level of professionalism;

·  Demonstrate the ability to work independently;

·  Exhibit personal drive, show initiative;

·  Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
