Psychology, Sociology and Health and Social care are hugely popular well established subjects in our 6thFormCentre.

The Psychology and Sociology department currently consists of a curriculum leader andfive full time Sociology and Psychology teachers. It is a well-established department with a proven record of success. There is a Psychology and Sociology base, including dedicated teaching rooms, which is situated in the 6thForm centre.The emphasis on sharing best practice within the department has led to a high level of consistency, outstanding teaching and learning and plenty of available resources.

Sociology and Psychology is taught at KS4 and KS5 and is a very popular subject.There are currently three groups at AS level and two groups at A2 level for Psychology andtwo groups at both AS and A2 level for Sociology. For GCSE there are two full groups for each subject.

The AQA specification is currently being taught at GCSE, AS and A2. Results at AS and A2 are outstanding. A2 results were100% A-C with 84% gaining A*- B for Psychology and 79% A* - B for Sociology. The GCSE results were also outstanding.

ALPS is one of the main performance indicators used by our 6th form centre. Last year the ALPS grade for Psychology, Sociology and HSC individually received a score of 2 which places the results in the top 10% nationally for value added. The ALPS grade for AS level Psychology was a 1. These outstanding ALPS scores have been maintained over the last 3 years.

Swakeleys has led the development of the BTEC Nationals and BTEC First Award in Health & Social Care for a number of years. There are three full classes at both KS4 and KS5. Level 2 Health & Social Care is relatively new and is the equivalent to one GCSE. At level 3, Health & Social Care achieved outstanding results in 2017, with 94% of results at D/D*. It is a thriving course which has grown significantly since 2010.
