1)HHS Announces Funding for Quality Payment Program
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on June 20 that it will award $20 million to assist eligible providers and small practices in transitioning to the Quality Payment Program under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). MACRA authorized $100 million in funding over five years for the Direct Technical Assistance Program in 2015. Eligible entities include quality improvement organizations, regional health collaboratives and regional extension centers. Eligible providers and practices in rural and health professional shortage areas are encouraged to apply. Proposals to receive funding for the Quality Payment Program are due July 28, 2016. 2)Socially-Disadvantage Groups Grant (SDGG) Program- Request for Proposals
The USDA’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service announces the availability of $3,000,000 in competitive grant funds for the FY 2016 Socially-Disadvantaged Groups Grant (SDGG) program, formerly known as the Small Socially-Disadvantaged Producer Grant program. Proposals are being requested from applicants who will provide technical assistance to socially-disadvantaged groups in rural areas. Applications that direct grants to projects based in or serving census tracts with poverty rates greater than or equal to 20 percent are encouraged. This emphasis will support USDA Rural Development’s mission of improving the quality of life for rural Americans and commitment to directing resources to those who most need them. Eligible applicants include Cooperatives, Groups of Cooperatives, and Cooperative Development Centers.Click here for more information. Applications are due August 1, 2016.
3)USDA Rural Community Development Initiative
USDA’s Rural Community Development Initiative awards grants to develop the capacity and ability of nonprofit organizations, low-income rural communities, or federally recognized tribes to undertake projects related to housing, community facilities, or community and economic development in rural areas. Areas with fewer than 50,000 residents can receive up to $250,000 to provide technical assistance to sub-grantees serving their communities. The deadline to apply is July 22.
4)Health Center Program Service Area Competition- Funding Opportunity Announcement
HRSA is accepting applications for the Health Center Program’s Service Area Competition (SAC).The Health Center Program supports patient-directed public and private nonprofit organizations that provide primary and preventive health care services to the Nation’s medically underserved. The purpose of the SAC funding opportunity is to ensure continued access to comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary health care services for communities and vulnerable populations currently served by the Health Center Program.Applicants must be a public or nonprofit private entity. Faith-based and community-based organizations, Tribes, and tribal organizations are eligible to apply. Technical assistance for the application process is available. The deadline to apply is August 16.
5)Anthem Foundation Healthy Generations Program Funding
The Anthem Foundation—one of the country's largest corporate foundations—is a private, nonprofit philanthropic organization wholly funded by Anthem, Inc. The Anthem Foundation funds specific public health–related issues that positively affect key health conditions identified through their signature Healthy Generations program, a multigenerational initiative to improve public health. The Anthem Foundation has granted more than $165 million in grants in 26 states to organizations that support the Healthy Generations program. The Healthy Generations Program’s five areas of focus include: cardiac mortality; cancer prevention and smoking cessation; maternal and newborn health; diabetes prevention and management; and childhood and elderly obesity. The Program is also supporting behavioral health efforts and programs that benefit people with disabilities. The areas of focus are based on the State Health Index, which incorporates public health data from the states Anthem’s affiliates serve, providing a snapshot of the major health issues in each state.
