This training program has been developed for the transportation construction industry and is focused on the problems and hazards faced by roadway construction workers. Visual content, case studies and participant activities are geared toward situations that roadway construction supervisors and workers are likely to encounter in their day-to-day activities. The program will provide basic and comprehensive worker safety and health training that meets the requirements set forth by the OSHA Training Institute for accreditation as an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Training Program. Each successful participant will be issued an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach wallet card.

Upon completion, attendees will have a better understanding of the highway construction activities that are responsible for the majority of work zone fatalities and injuries. Serious hazards that are common to all construction activities will also be covered. The ability to recognize, control and eliminate common construction hazards for preventing deaths, injuries and illnesses will be emphasized.


Instructor: John Able has been with Connecticut OSHA for ten years and has conducted more than 700 safety consultation visits. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from UConn. Mr. Able has been in the safety and environmental consulting field for 20 years. As a safety consultant, he assisted employers with accident and injury prevention measures, regulatory guidance and other safety and health program related issues. As the CONN-OSHA Training Specialist, Mr. Able has responsibility for all CONN-OSHA training activities.
