TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The terms and conditions applicable to this post are those of all NHS Employees.

1. Superannuation

You have the option to join the NHS Superannuation Scheme, to participate in the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme or to take out a Personal Pension.

Employee’s contributions to the NHS Scheme amount to 5.2% to 14.7% of salary (depending on rate of Pensionable Pay) and the employers’ contribution equates to 13.5% of salary. Employees in the NHS Scheme are “Contracted-out” of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme and pay a lower rate of National Insurance contributions. Employees who choose to participate in the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme pay the higher rate of National Insurance contribution. A Stakeholder Pension is also available.

4. Annual Leave

2. JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will have acquired highly specialised knowledge and advanced clinical practice experience in relation to assessment and ongoing management of generalist patients. They will be expected to function as an independent autonomous nursing practitioner and clinical expert by virtue of their specialist in-depth knowledge and experience working within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a safe, efficient and person centred pathway for each patient referred to the Hospital @ Night team.
The post holder will provide on site management during nights and at weekends
The post holder will be accountable for ongoing professional and personal development to ensure the delivery of evidence based advanced practice within the service, providing an expert knowledge base on which clinical excellence can be supported whilst acting as a positive role model to other members of the nursing team.
The post holder will utilise expert knowledge base and clinical competence, to support multi-professional teams ensuring a high standard of clinical care, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and health and safety legislation
The post holder will provide leadership, clinical support and advice to nursing and junior medical staff, making appropriate referrals to and coordinating the contribution of other members of the multi professional team.

4.  SCOPE AND RANGE
The post holder will use highly specialised knowledge and continually develop clinical expertise in the pursuit of clinical excellence and to provide a seamless high quality holistic service to patients and their families.
The post holder will exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and critical judgement in providing expert advanced clinical assessment and care for patients referred to the Hospital @ Night service, making professionally autonomous decisions in the care pathway for these patients including non medical prescribing, and referral on to appropriate care pathways
Manage themselves as a team
The post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility
They have a responsibility for ensuring cost effective staff utilisation in line with workload requirements within the clinical areas.
Manage clinical and general enquiries from both internal departments and external agencies
5. MAIN DUTIES
Clinical
The post holder will be expected to function as an independent autonomous nursing practitioner and clinical expert by virtue of their specialist in-depth knowledge and experience work within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a safe, efficient and person centred pathway for each patient referred to the Hospital @ Night service
They will have highly effective influencing skills over those with who there is no managerial
responsibility and with senior internal and external colleagues, with a focus on support
nursing staff within the clinical areas by providing clinical expertise
Manage beds effectively within the clinical areas out with normal working hours.
Be responsible for obtaining out of hours pharmacy stock for clinical areas either from hospital
pharmacy or external source and will be the point of contact through which the on-call hospital
pharmacist should be contacted.
Be the first point of contact for infection control/occupational health issues – an example of
which may be dealing with incidents of accidental exposure to body fluids, ensuring that
proper policy and processes are followed and correct lines of communication used
Be part of the fire team for the hospital. This will also include working with other managers to ensure that all staff working out of hours are clear on their responsibilities should there be a fire, or any other reason which may require clinical areas to be evacuated
Be involved in disaster planning. This may include working with others to review the disaster plan for the hospital. The senior nurse will be required to ensure that policy and procedures are followed and correct lines of communication with senior managers, clinical staff, other hospitals and the media are used appropriately
Act as the first point of contact for First Aid required in the hospital
Be involved in management of situations where patients wish to be discharged against medical advice. The Senor Nurse will act in an advisory capacity and ensure that proper policy is followed and that proper communication with patients consultant and relevant others is carried out.
Responsible for ensuring that staff and contractors adhere to the mentioned policies.
Leadership & Professional Work as an effective Advance Nurse Practitioner, meeting all the competencies required and maintain continuous professional development requirements to allow effective governance to assure the patients and the organisation of their fitness to practice, underpinned by appropriate education that is both measurable and safe.
Work as an effective member of the nursing team, delivering on all aspects of the Nursing Strategy and Quality Strategy within GJNH, ensuring safe, effective and person centred care at all times as a priority.
Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NWTC and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures and adhere to and promote the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times
Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care
Develop, support and share best practice within clinical areas.
Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping and ensure adherence to Caldicott data protection
Be a role model for the nursing team be representing the values and beliefs of the nursing
profession as well as that of the organisation.
Performance is monitored on an ongoing basis and is appraised annually by the Clinical Nurse Manager including achievement of specific advanced practice competencies..
Act on complaints in line with hospital policy.
Education Research & Management
Undertake specific competencies and maintain continuous professional development to retain advanced practice skills, to ensure the delivery of evidence based advanced practice within the service, whilst acting as a positive role model to other members of the nursing team.
Demonstrate this professional development with evidence from and for Personal Development Plan and KSF dimensions as well as accreditation and revalidation requirements.
